Okay Double Din Stereo...

Had a spin in an FTO today, aside from the car what really caught my eye was that it had a Kenwood double din stereo. This folded down at the press of a button to reveal a CD slot and a minidisc slot.

Upon seeing this I remembered that I wanted one LOL but realised I know nothing about them. So, a few questions for all you knowlegable dudes:

1) Do they actually sell them in the UK? Ive only ever seen them on eBay.

2) What kind of price am I looking at?

3) Is there a certain make or spec I should be looking at?

4) Does anyone know the actual model Im describing?

5) Anyone know of any for sale?

They only make like 2 or 3 in the UK.

They are mainly for the Japanese market, but the US get some too.

Most of the ones off of eBay come over from japan in imports, etc.

Bibbs might still be able to get hold of some, I even think he may have a kenwood... with a flippy down CD/minidisc revealer thing! lol

1) not really .. Euro Snot boxes don't have the room

2) about £250+ for a good one from Japan.

3) the best spec you can .. MD/CD .. the latter ones are DVD & TV too ..

4) Nope, there are LOADS of Kenwood double dins, I have one spare..

Just out of interest whats the model number of your spare kenwood so I can have a look at it on the web? Might well be interested.

At the moment Im waiting for someone to get back to me on a possible very good deal for the dvd/tv ones (fingers crossed).

At the end of the day though a second hand one that also possibly has minidisc as well as cd would be good (not really interested in one with a tapedeck)

erm it's a 6100mdx or something .. I've gotta check it first as it appears to play CD's and MD's but not make any sound (was fine when I took it out the car) ..

Have a look in the For Sale section .. I've had it ages and there are pics on there ..

You can get very good Double Din units from the USA. Just like that that are touch screen and can do everything. Think they are pioneer or kenwood. Have a search on eBay. Cost about £500 ish.

Just remember, a radio receiver from japan has a limited wavelenght... which is fine if you like radio 2, but anything else you will need to modify the tuner, or use an external tuner!!!

Also with Screens is there not an issue with PAL vs NSTC vs SECAM???

I think most new units can display all. At least I know the US ones can.
