Had A Weee Race With A Clio 172...

hi ppl.

1st of all i havnt been on this forum for ages, so hello to everyone again lol.

2nd of all, i dont think my username is very appropiate any more, as i have sold my SRi corsa, and im currently waiting for the delivery of my new SEAT Leon Cupra R :D

right back to the topic....

last night, in my bro's T - Sport we had a little race against a clio sport 172.

bassically we were cruising along and then my bro goes theres a boy racer with fogs on up my *****... so i just said ignore him.

anyways 5 mins later, we got to a round about which takes u to a dual carrage way and i said to my bro just go slowly around the round about at about 20mph in 2nd and then boot it, assuming the clio would race us...

... and he did!

we were doin about 65/70 by the time the clio got along side us, and i laughed at my bro sayin look its a 172... it had a 2ltire 16v Badge on the passenger door, and it said sport on the tailgate.

by the time we go to about 85mph it had pulled about 5car lengths away then we couldnt be bothered and just carried on cruising.

the only reason y we did it was coz i was hoping it was a 172 or 182 and i wanted to see how well they went, as i was considerin buyin the new 182.

tbh i was surprised, i thought the clio would have left us for dead! we were both 2 up and engine wise, all my bro has is a moddified air box!

so the little T - Sport did well :D

dont worry ppl it was late at night and the road was very clear, no other cars could be seen ahead of us (just sayin lol).

james :)

It's funny, but the faster hot hatches aren't that fast... when Toyota claim 108bhp for the Tsport, they generally make around 105-110 at the wheels.

But Honda claim 200bhp for the Civic Type R and it makes 150-160 at the front wheels and weighs a fair bit too. I wonder what the Clio makes at the wheels?

NO not another racing thread

Superetard thats interesting if toyota are putting bhp at the wheels,

most others quote them at flywheel.

nice

Oh go on then - someone has to say it and it might as well be me.

Racing on public roads is illegal - that is it's against the law. This forum does not condone racing on public road in any form and those that say they have done so on this forum deserve all they get when they get pulled up by the police. It's not BIG - it's not clever - it's just plain stupid

And now the public safety announcement has been offered, please find popcorn available at the front desk.

nice one mate, you just made my day. :D

no offence but never in a month of sundays would a tsport go any where near a 172.

i have come straight from a 172 to a tsport and the difference is huge.

they are prob the same up to around 5k revs then clio pulls like a train to just over 7k.

dont get me wrong the yaris is great but the clio is in a different league.

maybe it was just badged up as a 2L or perhaps he was not giving it all.

but thumbs up anyway

pete... na it couldnt have been a badged up clio coz the next fastest one after the 2litres is the 1.6 (isnt it?) and my corsa used to beat them. lol.

and yes he was definately tryin! no doubt about it.

i gues the T - Sport did better than wat i thought because...

a.) he didnt know i was gonna boot it (so he may have not been ready and thus wasted time having to change down gear)

b.) i was infront of him, so therefore went arround the roundabout before him and thus got the power down earlier!

lol just sum thoughts.

im NOT trying to say the yaris T - Sport is super quick or anything, coz lets face it, its not, but i do think it goes well for wat it is and that it is very underrated! :)

the only reason y i put my foot down was to see how well the clio went, especially as i considered buying the 182!

as for speeding on public roads, yes i know its illegal, and im not trying to make any excusses, coz lets face it... EVERYONE speeds... u either admit it, or ur a liar, and i h8 hypocrites! :P lol.

plz dont think im a boyracer lol, as im not! :P

To be honest, the difference between the fast hatches and the T-Sport isn't such a big deal. My mates 218vi will hit 60 in 6-6.5secs. But when booting it my car can keep up for a fair while and then he starts pulling away. Sounds a lot like your incident.

Inside his car feels a LOT quicker. If you put it on paper tho, you are only looking at 2 or maybe 2.5second difference. I wouldn't expect any car to go flying past with only a 2 second differnce. I deffiently expect it to go past, but not flying.

The car is in a different league. When that happens I usually think to myself. Clio 172 is french, its more expesnive, and its 9 insurance groups higher! Find a car in the same group as the T-Sport that's faster.

Also check this out. Its a 172 vs. a Corolla TS :) http://s0cks.co.uk/rs_vs_ts.wmv

On the road against each other, there isn't that much difference from one car to the next. The main difference is in DRIVING them! Many a time have i had small races on the roads with other cars, that on paper, i would have demolished, but i only gently get away from.(this being on the scoob with 330brake) I couldn't care less anymore tbh. It's not about the winning, it's about the FEEL of the acceleration, because no matter how fast your car is, there's always someone else with a faster car and you just never know who it is!

I'm not stickin up for the guy here, but has no-one ever went above the speed limit?! He mentions he went up to 85 mph. To me that ain't a particularly high speed for a duel carraigeway.......but maybe that's just me!

:D :P

water off a duck's back here, I've seen far worse and instigated most of it. I do make a real attempt to keep it to the track these days tho'

and the T-sport is an utter marvel for performance vs insurance group, I'm sure somebody missed something somewhere!

And my 1.3 SR is only group 5 too! B)

i have to agree 85 isnt fast as you see lots of people doing more than that on the motorway all the time....

yeah its a shocker that my 1.3 is a group 4! Im guessing superretards is a bit higher as its sporty version

riiiiiiiiiiight

so you own a corsa, but are buying a Seat - but post about a race on a toyota forum...

and, im probably infamous for abjection to these threads - but not this one - you know why - simply because your FOS - yep, your lying..

I can tell because in your first post its your bro driving, but in your second, you said 'i booted it', inferring you were driving - not a mistake you would make if you were telling the truth..

I don;t see any reason why he would lie? It could be his bro using SRi's account. It sounds pretty sound to me, i would expect the clio to about 5 cars ahead at 85mph.

With a touch of Gold poetry thrown in

How'd you guess I'd been reading that post before I posted here?

BTW, yeah everyone speeds from time to time, but to boast about it and boast about having a race on a public road is just pathetic <_<

Would you like us to congratulate you or something?:blink:

When will people learn that posting cr*p like this will make people dislike them instead of respect them *shakes head and tuts*
