Desperate For Help - Electrical God(ess) Needed

Hi People,

New to this site but already know some of you from other sites.

I have an electrical problem that is defying all reason, and is really getting me down now.

Tacho has gone dead, was bouncing all over for a few weeks and now is dead, so whats been done:

1. Checked and double checked all connectors.

2. Continuity checked the black wire from ignitor to tacho head

3. Replaced Tacho head

Car starts and runs fine, no hesitation or any other electrical problems.

The black wire which is supposed to be the signal wire seems to push out about 14.x volts, this is confirmed at both the ignitor and the tacho head connector.

When the connector is plugged into the instrument panel and the car is running, the black wire switches to something like 3.85.

Totally screwed my head on this one, so am pleading for help, any suggestions would be welcome (apart from fire it), really has me stumpled.

Does anyone know where the Tacho signalling starts from, the route it takes, what else uses it, anything PLEASE.

Thanks

Graeme

I understand about the speed sensor, but as mine is a REV 1 NA, with CABLE driven Speedo, then I assume (correct me if I'm wrong) but I wont have a speed sensor.

Cheers

A bouncing needle before the speedo whent?

Sounds like the cable snapped m8.

Fairly cheap part & labour shouldnt be that much either.

Give RogueSystems a call and they should be able to sort you out!

Hi and thanks for the response, unfortunately or fortunately for me I have nothing wrong with the SPEEDO :-) its the Tachometer that's causing the headache.

Thanks anyway

Graeme
