Diesel In An U/l Avensis

Well like the title says my dad just put diesel into his brand new U/L Avensis.

So I disconnected the fuel line at the coupling at put a pipe to a bucket and disconnected the starter motor so the Battery wouldn't drain. When I turned the key the fuel pump came on in the tank and out came the fuel, every bucket full turn it off emptied the bucket into a drum and carried on. This worked fine until there was only just unde a quarter of a tank left and then it decided not to play anymore, no pump, no starter (when I reconnected it) nothing except dashboard lights.

I have been told the new Avensis has a fuel sensor that immobilises the engine if the wrong grade is present so maybe that is it. If it is how can I get the rest of the fuel out or can I top up the car with Super U/L and it will flush inself through?
