Myself and Rico were at my local garage where they had a MK3 Supra in. It sounded lovely and you could hear the external wastegate.

I want one !?!?

Ok.... why would I need one, and could I easily get one put on my car ?

Doubtful as your stock ct26/20b has an integral wastegate and short of welding it up I think your probably onto plums.

However, a T88 setup would work ;)

External wastegates do sound great, agreed.

But i've been warned away from one on mine.

As they kill your turbo apprently, dont know if thats true because i'm not that technical minded unless i read up on it. but the mechanic who told that me; is very respected with all things turbo.

i have seen a down pipe made for the ct series turbo which separates the wastegate gas from the main turbo gas. the wastegate gas joied the main gas further down the down pipe but no reason why you couldnt make it into a screemer pipe.

external wastegates have a big advantage in that when the gate opens the flow of exiting gas from the turbo isnt disrupted by wastegate flow therefor resulting in better flow of gas out of the engine. as far as im aware they dont cause any damage to turbos only bystanders ears when they open lol :)

There is no such thing as a mk1 supra  (its officially called a celica XX, and was N/a anyway)

H reg is a fairly late spec mkIII (same shape as the one in my sig)

Are you sure it was an external wastegate, and not just a knackered blow off valve causing the "chop chop chop" noise?

I'm sure GReddy or HKS do an external wastegate set up for the mr2 tubby.

how certain are you?

I know they improve performance, but I was always under the impression they kill the turbo.

was defo external wastegate mate... you could hear it. Sounded amazing.

Mmmm... so I need a different turbo which doesn't have a built in wastegate then....... project me thinks for the future. Was looking to get an uprated CT20b... might have to change my mind now!
