rite, ive been giving this a lot of thought right, and since the paseo and the starlet share quite a few components under the body, i was thiniking if it would be possible to meld a starlet 4wd drivetrain with the paseo chassis, albeit with quite a few mods to make it all together, or is it jsut too farfetched and would require waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money and modifications to make the thing work.

see, if the things feasible, i might get it done......could imagine it right now, a 4wd drifitng paseo race machine B) that would be off the hook!! and its a patented idea of mine so no takers! lol

is there a 4wd starlet?, i mean production made, pretty sure they're all fwd, even gt turbo's and glanza's. Would love to hear different, and i'm pretty sure if you wanted a paseo drifter, then pure rwd would be better. But dont get me wrong a 4wd 'seo would be %$(in' cool, just needs a lot more power than the standard 5e-fe or 4e-fte can give you, would prolly be lookin for summin 1.8 and up. As for actually getting a rwd or 4wd setup actually into a seo you would be lookin at %$( loads of modding, prolly **** loads of body cutting and would be totally not worth it if you got it all done. plus it would need a respray aswell, would be way too much wonger, for reasonably little outcome. If i were you (and i am prolly sorta, in situation terms) i would prolly just stick with fwd in the seo and try getting it upto around 200 to 250 bhp along with ride and brake upgrades in your own unique way, and you'll prolly have a car that still rides really nice, kicks the pants off 90% of the **** on the road and then just work on making it look really nice inside and out. then that should take you upto about 25 (prolly just guessing) and you can go get yourself a Supra and really have some fun.

yeh i suppose, but i was just toying with the idea.

or sumone i suppose could even put in the hayabusa engine? i mean its really lightweight, 173hp out of the box (increase of 80hp).....only problem is getting the mounts and fitting some sort of tranny to it. i mean that would make the seo **** fast.......theyve done it to a smart car, so it should be able to be done in a paseo!

in the end, its all about the money, im keeping my seo for as long as i can, till it rots away basically, so im gonna keep improving on it.....i just aint too much of a fan of fwd :(

A Hayabusa engine just wouldn't go well in a Paseo. Yes the figures suggest it will but all a bike engine has to do is haul a frame, itself, a pair of wheels and a rider.

It would just explode under the strain. They only just work in the very light track cars eg Caterhams and Radicals.

i wouldnt suggest the bike engine in summin the size of a paseo like andrew was saying it just wouldn't pull, two of them with a tranny and rwd/rear engines would prolly cost you about 10 to 15 grand to complete and get right. and there is def' no way you would get a front engined rwd setup with a bike engine or even two of them. If you wanna play around with bike engines into car get yourself a knackered mini to play about with, loads cheaper and i wouldn't even thought a Glanza would be able to keep up with it. if your looking for that type of horsepower acually at the wheels go for a 4AGE black/silvertop engines, Or if you really wants some performance get a new celica engine and shove that in. And even with fwd you would still have so a lot of fun. Or if you really wanna go mad put the engine in the middle and give yourself and mr2 type setup.

yeh i kno, im just toying with the idea. mind u, the paseo's weight of 945kg isnt TOO much over the 450 - 600kg of the aforementioned track day cars. ahh well

i dunno, im a believer of make best of wat u got, so i want to see how far u can go with a 5efe, but fact of the matter is that theres isnt a whole lot u can do. if i got the money, i think i might even pull out 200hp odd from the 5efe, but i mean, i doubt it would be very reliable power.

so i dunno, unless the 5efe goes pop, im keepin it, otherwise, id get a transplant of sum sort (dont count on it for at least a decade tho :P), and i just want to try sumfin different from the 4age's, 4efte's, and even 3sge transplants....and maybe changin drivetrain

i mean, it can b done, just very expensively!

for a normally aspirated car engine, the target figure is 100 bhp per litre, so 150 from a 1500cc

The 1000kg or so for a Paseo is a lot more than the 230 kg or so for a bike. Even the track day special cars need a lot of maintenence.

Yes there is a 4WD starlet. EP85 from memory.

4WD drivetrain would add about 200kgs to the weight of a car, so to keep power to weight ratio the same you'd need a full 20bhp over the standard Paseo engine over the entire rev range to give it the same performance.

has anyone ever considered a Typre R engine swap?

Posted

ep85 and ep95 were both 1.5 diesel 4WD starlets the engine produced a massive 55hp so drivetrain will just explode running any power.

I really cannot see why you would do something like this, i mean i like my starlet and i'm into my tuning but if you want something quick and 4WD whats wrong with an Evo or GT4 you will end up spending way more money trying to do that to your car. Also i take allot of pleasure from doing everything i can on my car but something like that would just end up being a cheque book charlie job.

I must admit the sound of a rwd or 4wd paseo sounds absolutely mad and i would love to have one but for that sort of money for a conversion like that, get a supra ;)

Posted

well im gunna wait till i get the money :) im keeping the paseo along with any other car i get :D

but i mean, its not gonna happen anytime soon! i know that trying to do any of this means ****** loadsa work, ah well! time fixes everything as they say...

I'm not sure that even if you did do something like a modified 3sgte or 4age swap to get sufficient power, and then did the 4wd conversion, that the seo would be balanced enough, weight distribution wise to be able to drift. for the price of doing that, you could probably get a damn skyline.

Posted

meh, i dunno, i realise there's loadsa **** that comes into it but i dunno, i shall see in the future! lol

sorry I came in late here but it's funny you should mention that... I wanted to convert my paseo to rwd and throw a 4a-gze into it. Granted I can only import a front cut here.. it would still go alright. I've almost paid off the loan for the actual car... so I'm thinking about taking another 13 grand and throwing in new cams, 4a-gze, rwd conversion, supra gear box and have it painted ford's phantom purple colour. I'm not a fan of having ideas and doing it all slowly hehe

%$( man, keep us posted on how it turns out

Posted

mmm- that sounds pretty goddam evil :D

Keep us posted if you get round to starting this project ;)

Posted

heh yeah will do :) mind you the insurance man is going to hate me.. so I have to see if I can afford to pay the cover of it as well... then the evil government steps in with it's registration *sigh* that's what keeps me with what I have

mind you the insurance man is going to hate me.

but your tyre retailer will adore you!

hehe absolutely... they already love me thanks to low profiles. One day I'll learn that tyre shredding makes me a poor boy

hey sleepless, jus found out......uve been beaten to it!!! there's a tv show in america called "tuner transformation" which is basically like "pimp my ride" on mtv, but more hardcore. anywayz, they got a guy with a paseo, and they transplanted a 22r engine into it (a pickup truck engine i think) and they converted the car into rear wheel drive!! their main mission was to turn the paseo into a drift car....

only problem is that the car isnt street legal anymore as it has no heating or rear defrosting, and when sections were cut out of the rear structure to create a rwd drivetrain, the strengthning they used was quite ****, using crappy steel sheet sections and stuff, so there are a lot of paseo fans i know that are well ****** off with "tuner transformations", even some considering sueing them for makin the car pretty much worthless now....even if it aint their car!

so thats a new mission for u now, create a rwd paseo, with a decent engine....and thats STREET LEGAL!! lol
