Basically yes, the 5E-FE is a larger capacity version of the 4E-FE.

If you want an upgrade look for a 5E-FHE rather than a 5E-FE as this gives even more, 110bhp compared to around 75bhp from the 4E-FE.

Alternatively the 4E-FTE is the turbo version of the 4E-FE with 135bhp.

my mirrors are the race style spa formula 3 mirrors, i ordered the directly form spa at £72. you're right, they dont come with any base plate's but you can get a universal cut your own mountney pack, which costs about £14. i just took the old mirrors off did a cardboard template of the area where the mirror was and then cut and sanded the universal ones to size. the only hard bit is fixing the bases to the car, i drilled 3 new holes on each corner and bolted them on with some allen key countersink bolts. i dont have any pics just yet, as i dont have a digi camera yet, i've got some photo's being developed as we speak!! so i'll post them when i get them back. i'll have a full series of pics going up when the cars repaired! watch this space!

so whats the difference between the 5e-fe and the 5e-fhe? other than power?

and surely if they are almost the same as the 4e engine, couldn't i do a straight head change with ecu and manafolds (intake and exhaust)? & would that go well with my existing gearbox and clutch?? or am i just making extra work for myself??

i would get a turbo conversion, but i wanna get a glanza when i get bored of mine, so id rather wait and get one when i can afford to run & insure a turbo!

cheers guys,

Compression ratio, camshafts, fuel injectors and ECU differ between 5E-FE and 5E-FHE.

The extra capacity is determined by block, crank and rods, so changing heads won't do much (if at all)

Do the whole engine change, rather than messing about with swapping bits over, its easier and cheaper in the long run.
