Cutting Out Engine

Ok guys, heres an update of my car. Last Tuesday morning, doing steady 85 up M1 in fast lane, the engine just cut out on me. Got RAC'd home, called mechanice out. He checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm, they were past their use by date, so changed them. There is spark from each plug. The engine just turns over as normal, but doesn't fire. The mech came back this morning to havanother look, to check the fuel pump. Unfortunately, the fuel pump is INSIDE the fuel tank. I phone up Rogue to enquire to its whereabouts. So he gone to get a wiring diagram first before he starts taking the car apart. Thats it for now.

No, mech still hasnt phoned/ returned as yet. Prob 2mro now. I was hoping it'd just something simple like a fuel pump fuse or relay, but they were checked already. He wants to check the fuel pump itself now, but to get to it, he's basically gotta rip the car apart to get to it. :( All this hassle, never had this problem with any of my Bm's.

I just thought of something, I just saw somewhere about reseting the ECU. Why would this be neccesary? Could that be my problem? How can I tell if it is working or not??
