...........minding your own buisness and there is a Lorry followed by a van follewed by a Merc CDi thing.

The lorry and van are pulling away into the distance as the Merc is only doing 20MPH in a 40 zone.

Now, i'm not tailgating, i haven't cut him up, all i have done is catch up to him and then sat back and gone wiht the flow of traffic.

Anyway, we carry on for about 5 minutes at 20 MPH and i'm thinkin "what this bloke up to" i'm still sat back patient.

But, just around the next corner the road turns into a 60 zone with a 1/4 mile straight.

Right i'll overtake him on the straight.

But no, now MR Merc decides to drop down a gear and speed up (slightly)

So, we go from 6th to 2nd straight into the 6250rpm high lift range, slam it into 3rd and there is no more MR Merc.

*****.

I know so may a$$ hole$ on the road these days, i always tend to use the lift to overtake, wonder what it sounds like when you overtake someone in Lift, must be loud???

Think it suprises many people to be whipped bye a humble old corolla

lift is when the Tsport engine reaches 6200rpm and changes to a higher cam (hence lifting) then belts out 190bhp for a short burst up to 8200rpm.

Er it isn't really any higher up in the engine of course, that would be impossible :D

The second cam which engages above 6200rpm has bigger lobes which cause the inlet and exhaust valves to be pushed further into the cylinders, allowing a lot more mixture in and out. For some odd reason this is increased valve lift, although why anybody came up with that idea of valve lift when the valves are really moving down into the cylinder is probably lost in the dim and distant past.

Cheers

Paul.

the 'lift' refers to the contour of the cam lobe, in this case the lobe 'lift' is longer (or higher to be exact) on the secondary lobes meaning the valves stay shut longer on the intake and stay open slightly longer on the exhaust stroke.

Wonderful Lift! One of my mates has not long had a T-Sport and he took some of my mates out in it for a wee drive. They came back and said "it was really fast, especially when the TURBO kicked in!" Try explaining otherwise... ****!! lol

Haha!! I want a T-Sport now!! :(

Every day is a school day!!

It sounds kind of similar to the old GTI TVIS version, where when the engine gets to 4500rpm it opens an extra plenum chamber and you get a feeling of extra boost in the engine. Only difference is that on the T-Sport it's the cams that do it instead!?

id imagine its a lot more dramatic than on a 4AGE though. apparently T sports feel a bit gutless till this point, so it would have to be.

t sport ppl - is it not really frustrating having such a narrow power band? ive often wondered, coz sometimes i get caught below 5000rpm, and thats bad enough, but it must be worse for u guys?? i know it must be a big kick at that point if it's 190 brake, but is it not hard keeping it on the boil?

Bit like mine, however mine would work.. anywho I've got a nice powerband from 4k RPM onwards. Wipes out most that think it's a lowly Corolla

once in lift its not hard to keep it there as long as you rev it round to 8200, when you change you will still be in lift.

Its not totally gutless before the lift either, engine hasnt alot of torque but it does rev freely, it still feels quicker through revs than my 323 2.0 sport was. Best bit for me though is when you are side by side with another car and both screeming through revs once you hit 6 you aint side by side anymore, they must wonder where that came from :D

You do have to do quite a lot of mixing with the gear box and it does take time to get used to it. Even now it surprises me how far down the gears you can go and the engine just loves it.

Fantastic!!!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
