Stuck Shift Lock Override Button On 89 Cressida

Recommended Posts

Help! I have an 89 Cressida sedan with a shift lock override button stuck in the "on" position. That is to say, it's depressed (and as a result so am I). How can I fix this? I've taken it to the dealer and the response was, Why bother? I can use the car, but I can't believe the "on" position should be deployed at all times. Any helpful thoughts, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I take it this is the button that stops you accidentally selecting reverse while you are in drive etc. If so then it is just a safety device and you just need to be careful. Your dealers are obviously from a different planet to ours. Ours would be only too pleased to relieve you of your cash. It may just be that one of the springs within the lever has failed, or that some part of the mechanism has stuck and just needs freeing/lubricating. I think the selector knob is held on by a couple of screws (the side one has a cover over it) Not sure if this link will work but if it does it may help http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/index.php?name=copp...image&pos=-2478
