Yaris Hifi

Having "suffered" my (cassette equipped) Yaris Hi-fi for too long, and having originally been told it wasn't possible to fit a "normal" hifi, and having now seen the posts here, I'm now tempted to upgrade it...

What I don't quite understand is:

1) is it possible to keep the original tape player and cleanly fit a new head unit and have both working correctly (controlled by yarish dash switch)

2) if not what's the best way to do it?

3) what's this double din unit thing?

4) there is, it seems, an official Toyota adapter to plug into the yaris wiring loom that allows rear Speakers to be correctly integrated into the system. Is thsi correct, and does anybody know the part number? Ok to use with 6*9 Speakers rear?

5) Do aftermarket Speakers fit straight into the original toyota speaker spaces without butchering (err, modifying..) the original mount points??

Thanks, Kevin

Don't think anyone has included the double din fascia adapter in the write up's tho..?

Basically follow all those steps, but use the doulble din adapter and surround for a professional finish..

Fascia Surround: Toyota Part T55406-52010-B0 - £38 from Mr T

Double Din Unit - FP-11-03, made by Audioleads, it says for a RAV4 but it will fit the Yaris - from Halfords

ISo lead is £12 Halfords, toyota one......

Thanks for the info.

What isn't clear to me, is what happens to the radio display (frequency, stations etc) on the dash when using an additional head unit, or replacing the cassette unit and tray with a double din unit? Is it redundant??

When I install a separate HU, if I understand correctly, I can either install this through the original wiring (ISO adapter) plug (as described in the "how to's" or use a a combination of the original wiring (power & earth, ignition etc) but with separate amp and wire the Speakers independently of the existing system. e.g. 4 front (2 tweeters, 2 normal) and 2 back & subwoofer. Is this correct.

There aren't many pictures of installed new HUs - anybody got any??

Kevin
