Yaris TS questions

Hi TS owners

I am a very happy Yaris owner.

Two things:

1. What kind of fuel you suggest – premium or regular?

2. In my car I hear a “whine” from the gear in about 50 to 60 mph when in 5th gear, any one notice the same?

I love the car, and don’t think it needs modifications, maybe a super charge in the next model Yaris T150…. Yes!

:D

Hello,

had my t/s about 6mths now and never noticed a whine. Take back to dealer. One question though, do you suffer from rattling. i have had my doors padded out due to an annoying rattling from both the drive and passenger one. Seems to be a comman prob looking at other posts.

I use Super Unleaded or Optimax - this fuel is designed for Jap (performance) vehicles. Slighty more expensive then the norm u/l but you seeemingly get better economy so balances out anyway. Did you know that in Japan the cars run on 100 octane - u/l is 95 or 97 cant remember which but s/u/l and opti are on the 99 mark - cant hurt to try them, you may get better response.

Hi Miss T-sport,

Your right in saying that the throttle response will be better as the higher octane fuel burns easier and at higher temps giving more power (this is clear in my motorbike which responds much better on optimax) You will often find that the same cars in Japan have higher BHP figures than those sold over here as a result (the 'Runx' which is what the !Removed! call the Corolla is quoted as having nearly 210BHP where as the euro car has 192BHP!!! no fair) This is because the ignition timing in our cars are adjusted to compensate for the lower quality fuel. Cheers

Hi again,

I got the figures slighly wrong, U/L is 95 Ron, s/l 97 and optimax 98.6, but optimaz is really only u/l with added octane boost and cleaners. i know this as my b/f runs his scooby on it and found out the info from other scooby owners.

Optimax is great for high revving cars as it burns at a higher temperature, but can bog the engine down while idling or in traffic and make it seem a little sluggish.

I use it occasionally as a 'cleaner', maybe 2 tanks every 3000miles and i never notice any difference what so ever from standard 95 RON apart from it costs me about £3 less per tank.

Mine was designed to run on 95, even tho 97 is readily available so the manufacturer didnt see the need for a higher octane fuel so neither do i :) Each to there own i suppose.

:D LOL never laughed so hard in my life! bogs down the engine while idling and makes is seem a little sluggish, sorry had to type it again cos it was soooo funny. Both Optimax and SUL give better performance at lower revs, so in my own car I get more before the turbo kicks in. Optimax does indeed have cleaners in it so at lest you got that bit right ;)

My car is also UK and designed to run on 95, but it is far far better on 97 and optimax. JPS? do you have a jap car? I've always found that none jap cars don't care much for higher grade fuel, my Escort didn't run any different on 97 to 95. But seemingly JAP cars whether imports or UK much prefer getting close RON to their home country. Not only that, my car is more economical on the higher RON, so the extra few quid balances out. But! not all jap cars like optimax, well at least not all Impreza! some love it to death and some hate it, uk's & imports, not sure why, just seems to be that way.

I have a Jap car, UK built. Anyone who uses optimax in a UK car designed for 95 or 97 and seriously thinks they can feel a difference is being conned.

Placebo effect?

Do you think if someones car was taken from them ,filled up one week with crap Morrisions fuel and one week by Optimax they would honestly be able to tell which week had the Optimax in?

Fair enough on imports that do have a higher RON used in the country they were from, you more than likely will. But im talking about normal UK cars.

Maybe its just me, but ive never noticed any difference when trying Optimax, maybe it takes a few tanks for the car to adjust? I tried 2 £30 tanks and went back to normal Shell 95 and still noticed nothing on changing back. MPG was still 300 from a tank with no change in driving style. Guess my car doesnt like it!

I've used Optimax for the last 6K in my Yaris and I thought I found a difference after 3-4 tankfuls. My fuel consumption is also better by ~5% Evo magazine did a test about 6/7 months ago but I've lost the magazine!

Hello I'm a newbie to the whole Yaris forum. I hope you guys can help.

Is there a known problem with the gearboxes? I've just bought a 02 plate 1.0 GS with 43k on the clock and am finding it requires more effort finding 1st and 2nd gear when clutch is fully down and its grinds a bit when selecting reverse.

Any ideas?

That sounds just as funny! Get more power before the turbo kicks in? Get more power before the turbo kicks in?

You can only get so much power before the turbo kicks in! If you produce power quicker, the turbo will just cut in quicker! Laugh? I nearly bought a round!

I have the same weird problem, when I hit 60mph I hear a whine, it's never any other speed, always 60mph and only lasts about 3 or 4 seconds.
