would be for a 17 year old who has just passed her driving test ( fully Comp ) is there anyone on this forum who is that age and could tell how much they are paying and what insurance company they are with. The cheapest I have found at the moment is £1100 with Churchill.

Ahh, good old insurance companies!! You're all quite lucky with your insurance!

Im on my mums at moment even though i use car most and that £500 on top of £250. Thats with privilege btw. But, i should really be the policy holder... I live in a fairly bad area (goes with dads job of vicar!) car is garaged and only used for social, domestic and pleasure use. But, i have 1 very small claim and im 19. My insurance cost on a 1.3 SR??? £2900. I say £1100 is a bargain!!!

Model: 1.5 T-Sport

Age: 19

NCB: 0

Premuim: £1100

Excess: £500

Company: Elephant.co.uk

Also try Admiral. I got a quote with them for next year. They said £921 with 1 years NCB. Oh and then they e-mail you saying another £20 off if you purchase within 7 days... so that was £901!

Not bad!

Oh well, i guess il just be skint for the rest of my days!!

Aren't they passing a law soon that means insurance companies cannot discriminate between men and women... and that they are all equally good drivers!

Either prices will fall for men and rise for women, OR more likely prices for women will just rise.

They WERE passing a law, but the european court threw out the whole idea... they didnt even entertain it.

Yup, my dad's a vicar! I dont think it brings down insurance, mind you, his 1.4 Ford Fusion2 with lots of extras is only about £200. (esure... for the oldies!)

Damn good point! And the answer is... Nothing!!

Closest thing is Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 Rally2. That does it in 7.9sec and is in group 8. Granted, its a snip at £10,445, but, its alien-queen ugly!

rite... i have seen ppl say its got 106bhp wen it says in the book its got 103 and ppl say it goes 2 60 in "under 9 seconds" but the book says 9 seconds! (or is that cos its 62 in 9 and not 60?) please can someone clarify... thanks.

The quotes in book are the official toyota measurements, like mpg figures etc. The other things you've heard come from people who time themselves, or car mags who test the cars on their own specialist equipment (which is usually more accurate) and thats where other figures appear from

... insurance companies cannot discriminate between men and women ...

It's all based on statistics. I've seen the programs which calculate the premium and packages - those are HUGE programs.

THEY run business and if the statistics says that men are worse drivers, they charge more for the extra risk THEY take. I would not blame them.

There's a simple answer to this men Vs women insurance costs. Yes, men probably take more risks because its in our blood, therefore we usually have higher speed accidents which is pricy on the insurance companies. BUT! Women casue the %$(ing things! and they have far more accidents in total (actual car survey found that) but they are low speed scrapes (the REALLY annoying ones e.g car parks) and therefore often dont claim on insurance and opt to pay or they just ignore it and leave. As it comes from the gob of one of these kind of women, Miss Tara Palmer herself:

"I think bumpers are there for when you're parking, 'cos you can go bump, bump, bump, and in."

I'm not a sexist and i know plenty of good female drivers, but at the end of the day, the majority of women dont have as good a sense of space and distance e.g. parking, and pulling out in front of people (grr!) Whereas men are more relaxed at the wheel, losing concentration quicker and therfore having bigger crashes.

Im sure there'll be plenty of arguments about this, but its all in the genes! Just biology!
