thanks for your kind comments chrisb!

anthokr - what was the problem in the end ? I am glad you have now got it sorted :) The mp3 autochangers are approx £160 if you search on the net - so get saving!

I don't think you can have both th etape and a thirdparty headunit plugged in at the same time - that's why my solution is useful :) - Anything is possible if you are prepared to modify the car's standard wiring (maybe add a relay and a switch aswell ?) - but it s not that easy....

cheers

Fred

Hi again !

Again with a stupide question.

I have a kenwood (KDC5060R) cd player in my Yaris.

I would like to connect to it aCD changer.

I have been proposed an ALPINE 6 CDs changer.

Will it work ? Is it possible to connect whatever changer into whatever CD player ?

Also, what di you think of Alpine TDS 7554r ?

Thanks

Hi,

That is a great tutorial and I have just finished the install in a 'T' reg Yaris. But . . . I can't seem to be able to skip tracks. I take it the |<< and >>| buttons are used (under the volume knob)?

All the rest of the stuff works fine - playing MP3s, CDs, Random and Scan modes, changing CDs; I can even fast forward through a track by holding down the >>| button.

Has anyone had this kinda problem? Any ideas on what to check? I've posted a message on the connects2 board also.

Cheers,

Seimon

hi there,

thanks for your kind comments regarding my tutorial. The 2 buttons immediately below the volume knob are the ones to skip tracks. Did you purchase the exact model of sony changer as used in my tutorial ?

If it is the same model, then i strongly suspect the conencts 2 unit is possibly at fault - or the cables arent 100% connected - so check for any loos connections on the rear of the headunit first.

thanks

fred

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your quick response. I did get the same unit - the T70MX. I'll double check the wiring connections but it is strange that I can fast forward using the same buttons! Do you know what the wires do on the back of the connector? Are they the button signals - I'm guessing that it's already encoded in whatever format before then. It might be time to get the 'scope out!

Thanks again,

Seimon

This sounds more like your MP3 files could be dodgy. Make 100% sure that they are ok. To be safe... use CD-R discs, not RW and make sure you fully format the disc. Try putting your MP3 files in 192kbps quality too, that' the best way to ensure that all is correct.

If it aint that then im stumped, as i can't see wiring being a problem as it lets you do the other things. I'd take a stab at it being the connects2 thing if nothing else works.

Yes... buy the connects2 line-in box for a Toyota Yaris Fujitsu10 cd player (£50) then take your dash apart (takes 5mins - if that, very easy) plug in the new box, plug in a phono-3.5mm cable and plug that into your mp3 player and test it works. Then wire the cables wherever you want, put the dash back together and voila! music via mp3!

.......Then upgrade to a 20gb player!!

Thanks for that ...

Upgrade to 20Gb mp3 player? ... seeing as madam has now stolen keys to the D-4D and left me with her bl**dy awful VW Lopu 1.4 that's pretty unlikely for the time being ... she's used up all of her brownie points for a while :(

Just finished installing it, took under an hour. I have put it in the boot and it works like a dream. I put the wires under the plastic door sill and through the carpet under the back seats.

Many Thanks go to fredsmithers, I now have a quality CD Changer and you wouldnt even know it.
