Insurance Question

Well, the description says 'young' drivers, but I feel older with each passing month! :P

I realise that this has been examined on this forum before, but having read as many insurance related posts as I can find, i'm still slightly confused....

I'm looking to but a TT Supra at some point in the near future, as it's the only car i've been in that's made me smile with the sheer power of the thing. I can afford the car, but insurance is another matter.

I checked out Elephant this evening, and with a bit of creative NCB, DOB and length licence held tweaking, it seems that I can be insured next year around £1000, with my fiance/girlfriend (who will be 21 then) as a named driver!

Myself, i'll be 23, 2 NCB, 1 1/2 years full UK licence, (hopefully) 0 claims or points.

Is this is realistic quote, or are they mistaking the Mk4 for the Mk3? I only ask as the car came up as Toyota Supra Twin Turbo Auto (1993-), and I don't want to get excited just to find out that this really good quote is for a car that I don't want! :P

One final question, what is classed as a UK (ie non-import) car? Are imports only imports until sold on by their 1st UK owner, or do they always remain imports? As many can imagine, the quote above was for a UK TT, not an import.

Many thanks for your help in advance, and I hope to join the ranks of the Supra drivers soon! :D

Thanks!

That sounds right, im 22 with 0ncb and 0 points. Just over 1k with bodykit listed as a mod.

93 and above is mk4.

UK cars are cars sold from Toyota Dealers over here. I.e their UK CARS

Imports are used cars brought over from other countries.

The origin of retail from New is what labels it Import or UK.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies! :D Although now the joy at such a low premium has been overtaken by the realisation of just how difficult it seems to be to find a UK spec Supe. I think I saw 1 only on Autotrader, not helped by the fact I can only distinguish them by the bonnet scoop.

Sorry to be a pain and very noobish, but are there any places where i'm more likely to see UK spec cars? Otherwise it'll be a trawl through a long list of insurers I found on another site who will insure imports. <_<

Thanks again for your help! :D

one sure way of knowing its a uk for sure.............washer horns and the number plate configuration on the rear.

good hunting fella. if u are looking for a uk tt manual......u will be waiting a long time, u may have to think about going auto. i did, dont think i would change now if i had the chance.

u could try www.mkivsupra.co.uk look in the for sale section, other than that, autotrader or eBay.

I checked out Elephant this evening,

I wouldn't trust them as far as i could throw them.

Same company, same useless c*nts !

They're fine if all you want is a certificate, but if you ever have to make use of the policy they will wiggle and squirm and not listen to a word you say. Yes i've had a bad experience with them first hand (all documented at www.mkivsupra.co.uk) and i've heard of lots of other people who've had problems.

A car as rare as a UK spec (only 623 ever sold) deserves a policy fitting for a car of its status, hence the reason why we pursued a club policy in our owners club. Unfortunately its only available to over 25's

Good Luck with your quest.

Having seen how rare UK cars are, I think i'm just going to have to wait and get an import, swallow the lump in my throat, and bend over to take the HUGE premium. <_<
