I need the part number for a tie bar on my gen 5 Celica

its the rod that ties the rear n/s hub to the centre of the chassis, there is a pair of them on each side, its the rear one i need... it has a very long bolt that fastens the 2 to the hub, may even need the one on the opposite side as well

I THINK IT IS THE PART WITH No 48730F/48740F DEPENDING IF L/H IS N/S OR O/S. IT IS THE N/S ONE I'M AFTER

I'VE PM'D MY VIN No

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED CHANGING ONE OF THESE OR KNOW SOMEONE THAT HAS?

is the arm totally knackered , if not why not just buy the bushes and have them pressed in.

I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART IS ONLY AVAILABLE AS A FULL ARM? IF I COULD GET JUST THE BUSH THEN THIS SHOULD BE A LOT CHEAPER, MIGHT EVEN BE WORTH CHANGING THEM ALL WHILE THE CAR IS UP?

ARE YOU SURE THE BUSHES ARE AVAILABLE AS A SEPARATE PART FOR THE GEN 5?

chocka having looked at both gen 5 and gen 6 , i see no difference what so ever , only that they now do a bush for the gen 6 , and one arm on the gen 6 now has a track rod end on for the 4 wheel tracking , its very possible the bush for the gen 6 will press into the gen 5 arm

Went to Mr T this morning and ordered the bush (£13) will see if it fits next week worth a try for the money as the whole new arm is £58 + vat and they want £90 to fit it

Had the car up in the air this morning to make sure the old arm comes off OK

It only took me 1/2 hour to get it off so no problems there. The rear arm comes off the long bolt at the nut end, this bolt holds both arms to the hub wouldn't budge tho so if I ever need to change the front arm (bolt head side) I think I'll have to take it to a garage as it will need a bit of gentle persuasion with a flame and a big hammer :boxing:

Will keep you informed about the bush next week when it arrives at Mr T, should be able to get it pressed in at work......... so fingers crossed

oh dear, it doesn't fit!

I took my old one off, measured the inner bush with a vernier and checked it against the new one...exactly the same, pressed the old bush out only to find the new one to be 1.2mm smaller on the outside diameter.. :censor:

then had to press the old bush back in again to refit the arm.

Been down to Mr T and ordered the whole arm this time, at least they took the bush back and credited against the new arm. old one will be Ok for another couple of days until the new arm arrives.

Oh well it was worth a try, saves anyone else having to try this!
