Hello to all members,

I have recently bought a large 6 berth caravan which means my present Renault Espace will have to be replaced by a 4X4 vehicle. Been looking around the dealers test driven a Y plate Colorado, the new Hyundai Terracan and the Kia Sorrento not interested in the Discovery and yet to test drive a Mitishi Shogun. I must admit I look the look of the Colorado even though with a budget of approx £18k I will be buying an older car compared to the Korean types etc. I would just appreciate members thoughts and comments on just how good is the Toyota compared to the rest of the cars out their etc.

piker, depending on your budget, the land cruiser is a fantastic truck, very little problems, and will outdo any other manufacturer. I am a toyota master tech of ten years and have never seen any major problems on the LC.

piker did you not see TOP GEAR a while back , they took a toyota pick up and crushed it , burned it , sank it in a pond god knows what else , and guess what , yep it still started and ran .

From the choices you gave then I would go with the Land Cruiser. Even if it wasn't better than the others it will lose less money!

I don't know about the Sorrento, but the difference in quality between the LC and the Terracan is quite marked.

Have fun whatever you choose (and remember that we're somewhat biased  )

When you drive a landcruiser you will always get a kind grudging respect from owners of lesser vehicles. :group-cuddles:

It just wont happen with the others.

My younger brother has diesel 2000 version which he drives on outback roads averaging a 5000 klms a month and he says nothing comes close to it.

I have been hearing that the Terracan is good value but a little plain. It is the most heavy duty 4x4 in its class/price but still a long way behind the colardo/prado

Piker,

I spent 18k on 3.0GX colorado 3 years ago and it was money well spent. It does everything you could possibly ask of a vehicle.

Carries 8 people

Excellent driver comfort - can drive for miles without fatigue

Converts to a van when all seats flattened

Slimmer than an E class merc so its easy to drive

Surprisingly sprightly for its size

drives in a straight line unlike some 4x4's (test drive a shogun)

Utterly reliable

You should be able to get the D4D engine for that money which I believe is quieter, more economical and a bit more powerful.
