Abs Sensor Update

Hi Folks,

in reply to my earlier posting about a failed front offside ABS sensor on my 1998 CarinaE 1.8SE....

I had been quoted £170 by the Toyota Dealer to fit a new one, or £120 for the part alone. :crybaby:

I spent the last few weeks phoning around and dropping into breakers...

and then the other day i found a breakers who has the near side sensor for £25.

Now, the sensor is a kind of epoxy moulded part, and the near side and off side sensors have the wires exiting the sensor on different sides.

But i bought the sensor anyway...

Went to fit the part, and it fitted no problem. Checked for clearance with the steering at both ends of lock, and it was good. I also cut a corner, by not removing the arch liner, and cutting the wires, and soldering the new sensor in, and then water proofing with heatshrink sleeve...

Works fine now, and saved myself at least £100...

:o Oh yes, for the record.

The ABS sensor should have a resistance of 1.6Kohms... My failed sensor was open circuit.

Just in case you want to know

Nick
