Running a Volvo P1800 at the Bonneville Salt Flats using a Toyota 5 speed behind a Volvo SOHC 2L motor. Shifting through the gears at 9,500 rpm, but when going into 4th gear the rpm drops to 6,300 rpm. Peak power is developed at about the 8,500 range and the motor cannot recover by the time the mile marker approaches, turning exactly 7,000 rpm at end of run (140 mph). I do not know the origin of this trans, only that it's a steel case with four mounting bolts to the bellhousing. Suspect a 1.39 3rd gear ratio. Does anyone know whether a taller gear (1.27 or so) can be substituted? Perhaps close ratio gears throughout? A trans swap to a W57, 58, or 59 is doubtful as no one makes a bellhousing for Volvo to fit the 9 bolt pattern. Appreciate any thoughts, comments, or suggestions. Thanks,

Kent
