Hi Chris, just had a look on my Blueprint-ADL epc but they don't make the hydraulic tensioner, and if anybody did it would be them !, so it looks like your going to have a spend up with Toyota :( , but don't leave it, it does need replacing if its leaking

Luckily the cam belt tensioner is only £39 + vat from a toyota dealer :hokus-pokus: but with a two day delivery  .

Small price to pay for the belt not slipping off  :) .

I had the cambelt changed recently at Mr T in Wakefield for my MR2 (3S-GE engine), bunch of muppets handed my car back to me with the tensioner broke, then tried to charge me £100 to put right (£100 for the parts, labour free). So I rang around for the price of a new tensioner, it varied from £43 to £80something, average was £45 though. Mr T ended up sorting everything for free though - as they shouldn't have broke it in the first place!!

I had mine done at an independant, and they warned me that on the 3S series engines they have a bad habit of popping the tensioner when it is moved. Apparently its not (usually) the mechanics fault, just when theyre "pulled back" to fit the new belt they can break. Mine was OK (and it should be, as i preume it wont have slackened that much as it was only on for 30,000 miles) luckily.

Yeah, when I took my car back to the Toyota dealer they told me it's common for the tensioner to break too.

But if it's such a common problem then why isn't the tensioner changed as a matter of course? That's one slack Toyota dealership I won't be going back to.

Even slacker that they handed the car back to me with a broke tensioner :ffs:

In the end the dealership sorted everything out at no extra cost - except for the time it cost me - SIX days in total my car was off the road, SIX days for a !Removed! cambelt change!!
