On my old Corsa it meant just unplugging the Battery for a few hours then plug it back in...car would splutter on start up at first for about 5 secs then once it had set itself would run fine...might be the same on the MR2....

you can do it just by pulling the Battery but be carful if u have an immobilser/alarm and no fob as it will arm it and then u wont be able to go to japshow or is that just me

or pull out the ecu fuses and press barke pedal a couple of times

The EF & EFi fuses in the engine bay .. tap the brakes .. put them back.
