Ae92 Exhaust Systems

Hi all, Just registered. I have an AE92 which I am currently gutting im just looking for any information on where to get an exhaust system for my GTI16V, I've spoke to a few people and they've told me to go for janspeed. R these still made? If so where do you get them? I don't want to loose the raspy sound from the origional exhaust (ie no big stupid gutter pipes) however I need to tidy the back end up! Ps would still like to keep twin round outlets. Thanks for looking Ill post pics when shes finished its gona look mint!

I’ve got mongoose stainless steel exhaust on my twinny, with two 3 inches pipes at the back; it’s from the downpipe back. It’s sound mean, u loose the original twinny sound (the best), but you get a nice deep grunty sound, next best thing to the original. Not cheap mind cost me £350 (including fitting) but with life time guarantee from Collins Performance in Congleton Cheshire more nearer than Fensport. It’s not loud like them massive Subaru style exhausts. Recommend Mongoose over Janspeed.

avoid Janspeed systems!

They 'can' have serious rust issues, most if not all of there systems are made from 301 steel which infact isn't even proper stainless steel as they will describe in the selling speech as using stainless steel in their exhausts...

I ordered mine online from Rage It was delivered to my home 2 days later. I got my local mechanic to fit it for me as there was already custom pipework previously fitted to the car.

The car sound really nice now as the back-box is "tuneable" and I have tweeked it for my liking B)

I'd recommed http://www.powerflow.uk.com/ as tey will taylor your exhaust to exactly what you want. Fully stainless as well with a lifetime guarentee. A full system will set you back between £300 and £350!

Correct, Janspeed have been having quality problems of late.

A classic car spares firm which I have delt with sells Janspeed exhausts for a number of sporty old-timers (Sunbeam Stileto, Escort Mexico, Cortina 1600E, MGB, etc.) and despite them being 'Stainless Steel' they will only guarantee the system for a misely 18 months! ...exhaust/tyre centres will give a 2 year warranty on mild steel partern part systems!

It's a shame about Janspeed because back in the 80's they were very respected in car tuning circles and club level motor racing.

The exhausts that Janspeed do for the Corolla are not stainless but mild steel thats why they will eventually rust and dont have a lifetime warranty.

As for the sound the AE92 exhaust that Janspeed do in mild steel does have a good sound, its not deep like the mongoose a bit more like the original exhaust.

Having said that you won't have that original raspy note at the top end that you do now with your standard exhaust.

Without having seen each of the exhaust systems tested on a dyno its hard to say which would give you the best power gains.

I actually thought on their stainless items they did a lifetime warranty which was 20years or something. It may be an idea to contact them and find out but i think you will find they only do the mild steel systems for the Corolla.

The Mongoose is great.I felt a difference in performance right after I fitted it.The sound is excellent as well.Go for it mate.
