i was behind a j reg skyline on a huge roundabout with 4 lanes no traffic can come round (kinda like a huge bend) i was behind the skyline and his car looked like it was about to roll over! the body roll looked sooo bad! his car was slowley movin away from the roundabout whilst my car was stuck like glue to the inside!

was not racing or anything i just so happend to end up behind the skyline...i was laughing at the body roll..i would have thought they were ten times better at handing than that! still like the cars tho...not as much as my 2 or supras...supras and 2's are the nuts

j reg... that's what, 1991? Try following an M reg skyline.

j reg is 91/92 i think...they do 2ltr non turbo models i think it was the r32

Skylines: possibly the most overhyped car out there, next to the escort cossie and impreza.

They are good, they are fast, they have all sorts of eletronic gismos for people that are scared of driving real cars fast...

They are not THAT amazing,

They also have no character at all in them, which is why I dislike them

still, £5k for a 280bhp weekend nut car isn't bad going :)

I had a similar experience following a WRX Sti the other day, now theres no doubt in my mind that it sticks to corners more than my mr2 ever could but the body was rolling everywhere!

£2k will get you a 1jz-GTE supra, 280 bhp, billet internals good for a whole lot more! (some say 600, its stronger then a 2jz)...

plus it has character!!!!

Then there are Mr2 turbos ;)

I'm not totally biast towarsd toyota.. I'd still love an RX-7.... but only as I don't mind getting my hads dirty in the occasional engine rebuild  Plis there is no way you could call an RX bland!!!

but can you keep it on the road? :)

yup.... not sure if you are talking about relibility or handling........

both have no problems ;)

for such a heavy car, supras have always been nimble

love the rx7's... but couldn't be bothered with the whole hassle of the engine rebuild.

... or the oil tanker in tow :o

thought there are a bajillion types of skyline, only one of them are fast.

there's a few types of Skylines unless it's got the distenctive GTR bodykit. you could of been behind a 1.6 LX version. lol

As for Rx-7's, My mates veilside certainly draws some attention, ;)

I would love to own an rx7 at some point in my life and its not true about their reliability. If they are well looked after they are fine. How many knackered mr2 turbos did you guys come across before you found the right one. Its just that theres loads of knackered ex-drifter imports being bought out there thats why they have a dodgy rep.

Every RX-7 owner will argue with you there; sorry. (well the one's who know what to expect anyway)

They do need a engine re-build every 60,000 miles.

OK I admit, I know more about Rex's than most people, as I'm friend's with Pip who own's WGT (UK's most reptuable Rotary mechanic)

(If you look in the pic that's where his RX-7 is at the moment. lol)

I like Rex's but to own one you do need to be an enthusiast, who will look after it properly.

It's not just the re-builds. the engine itself is very fragile. it's needs to be checked every week. It's become's more like a chore, but to an enthusiast it's a chore well worth doing

As for Sales Rep's I totally agree with you on that one, When we ask when was the last re-build and what compression it's running at. they usually say: "It's a solid engine it wont need a re-build". lmao  :P

 never knew they had a engine rebuild every 60k!!! sod that! i would own one if won the lottery lol and pay some guy to come round every week and work on it!!

they are nice motors tho

Well consider it this way....nobody seems to talk about the wonderful Lancer Evo V,VI,VII and VIIIs maintenance. Are you ready?...a nice £550 service after every 3500 miles. The Lancer forums keep that un quiete about the amazing evo.

ps Id still ove to own one of em..2 of my m8s do but they moan about the maintanece.

That compared to a £2500 rebuild once every 60k and a lil maintanace here and there on the RX-7. Dont seem so bad now eh!

Posted

ok eat this...rx-7 with a 3sgte swap.....my ultimate car!...now I just need oooh lets see...a £gizillion?...hmm :(

Posted

thats bad on the evos!!! lol yeah 2500k every 60k aint that bad at all lol

that would totally ruin the car

The best thing about the RX-7 is the engine, which is also its biggest achillies heal!! the little engine is soooo light, and so small it is mounted right down low, against the front bulkhead for perfect 50/50 weight distribustion, even the driver is right in the middle of the wheelbase so even with a pie taster driving it still has perfect f/r 50/50 weight distribustion, and a very low centre of gravity!

the power band on a rotory is like nothing else you'll ever experiance, ther is no power band, its just power on tap, as long as the turbos are boosting it seems to have a totally flat wall of torque  the brakes make your eyes pop out, and it corners creating so many G's I was expecting it to let go at any second... to drive it totally anihalates any other jap gt..

think NSX handling with more power thena supra TT and your close...

then thing ford build quality and H1 hummer fuel consuption...... to balance out this "too good to be true" story!

I'm totally gutted a made of mine had a late one.. the 260 bhp faclift version.. we had been pout in it all day.. he asked me if I wanted a go, but I'd had too much to drink :ffs: so he said no worries make it another time... unfortunately since then the fuel bills have got to him so he now has a !Removed! golf R34 :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

I used to have one and they are reliable IF (BIG IF!!) they have been owned by someone who always changes before the buzzer kicks in to chang gear - its only when they keep doing this that the rotor tips go and then a rebuild is required, rx7 forums where they talk about revving up to 10,000rpm and doesn't do any damage is what causes problems. They basically will keep pulling until they let go about 13000 rpm.

I've seen examples owned by one person who have over 90000 without being rebuilt.

Fantastic cars, but if they have been in the wrong hands they can be fragile and unfortunately most have been ragged to see how much further it will pull after the buzzer.
