Hi

i have a 1995 import 2.ol auto Celica (ss1 ithink). Have just brought it unfortunatley the guy i brought it from was not sure what some of the buttons do. There is a red button on the gerar change console (top right)????? also the are two buttons to the right of the gear change lever, ecst-pwr and esct-man????

Can anyone tell me what these are for please....

regards

paul

I think that the PWR button is like a sport mode thing, basically it makes the engine rev a bit higher before the change up happens so that you get more performance. The MAN button means that you have to do the gear changes yourself. The red one is some sort of lock thing. It allows you to move the gear lever without having to have your foot on the brake I think

Thanks for the reply. Not sure about the manual button answer as its an automatic. The gear shift has L 2 D N R P on it, any idea what the L stands for :eek:

L = Low Gear Used mainly for towing up steep hills etc.

2 = 2nd gear

You can drive an auto like a manual car. i.e. You can be driving along in D then if you want a bit more pep to say overtake you can shift to 2. (Assuming your within a preset speed/rev range predetermined by the gearbox) Not sure what it is on the celi. But in my old rover if you were tootling along at 60 and downshifted to 2nd it would change down and go like stink. If you were doing 75 it wouldn`t change down, because doing so would over rev the engine. Hope you understand what i`m on about. :thumbsup:

Just dug out my handbook (Gen5) and there is a few pages about the auto. If you give me your e-mail addy i`ll scan it and send you a copy. Might help a bit. Doesn`t say owt about the buttons tho. Later addition for the gen 6 i expect. :thumbsup:
