Rusted Sump

I have a Toyota Hi-lux, which is still covered by the anti-rust warranty. I recently discovered that the sump had almost rusted through - finger pressure caused it to bend - while other parts around it are fine! I went back to my main dealer (Ireland) and they had to replace it. They told me that it wasn't under warranty as it wasn't part of the bodywork. Has anybody come across a similar problem before? I feel that it surely must be a material fault and certainly not of my doing!!! Thanks for your help.
