Moldy Smell From A/c Vents

Hello,

Anyone suffer from this unappetizing problem or have any suggestions ?

There is a noticeable smell of mold that comes out of the AC vents. Mostly on hot days when the AC is OFF.

This has gone on pretty much since buying the car (2001).

The dealer has changed various filters and done antibacteria treatments with little effect.

He has also suggested I run the car with AC off, fan on high, and intake vent open for a few minutes before stopping. No luck with this either.

Anyone got any ideas ?

THanks much.

Didn't I read somewhere that there's a spray on cure for this? Fungus breeds in the vents or something. Once it's in there it's a pig to get out. Sorry, not being much help here, I'll try and remember where I saw that stuff. It's like athlete's foot spray for car vents and A/C filters. Ugh... Oh, someones just shouted BMW dealers sell it. The other option is to replace the aircon filter (which I think is behind the glove box) and see if that helps. Or spray Dr Scholl spray ahlete's foot or Sneaker Treater into the intake - but that might rot the plastics!

Ugh!

Thanks for the reply. The dealer claims to have applied antibacterial sprays and has also replaced the A/C filter. But the only thing it seems to have helped is the dealer's cash flow. Virtually no change to the actual smell though.
