Batteries

Okay, got out from work last night and my Battery was dead .. think I need a new one as it's been playing up for a while now. It just started this morning.

I went into Halford for a "deep cycle" Battery and the guy asked if it was for a push bike. I then left the building ..

So what are peoples recomendations? I need something hefty for my ICE .. also telling me where I can get one would be good ..

Got one here you can have for £60 Ben

12volt 170 amp hour (should be powerful enough for your ice  )

Might be a tad on the large size though! ;)

here is what Rob (Jaxx) mailed me ..

and to be honest its up to you. youll need to have a look on it and check

the capacity, running and cranking ratings. i dont know them off by heart

for the 2 yet. but basically its best to try and match them best you can and

then you can get just a normal replacement from halfords. best bet is to go

for a 'good brand' aswell. try and get Exide or Panasonic or something like

that. Halfords do their own batterys and i think they are made by Delphi,

which are std equipment on most Eurospec Toyotas these days so i suppose

they are recommended. (Japspec use Panasonic).

as a rough guess i think youll be paying anywhere between 50 and 80 quid if

you want a good one. they get cheaper but are generally *******.

if you want my uttermost recommendation then go for an Optima Red/Yellow

tops or the Exide Maxxima

these are deep cycle 'gel cells'. they hold loads of charge and are designed

with car stereos in mind. at the best of times you can sit there with your

ICE thumping and itll hold enough charge in 'reserve' to restart the engine!

(well thats what they say) they also hold optimum charge at all times, ie it

doesnt diminish over time due to constant charging (similar to mobile phone

batterys) and they retain full whack at all times. the maxxima is also

pretty crazy as it has three sets of terminals! so you can mount it perfect

and then have terminals to run the car and terminals to run your ICE! if i

remember rightly aswell it works as if its two batterys aswell. so again you

can sit there with the ICE playing and only discharge half the battery, so

the other half can start the car! and then it charges as one whole thing

once the alternator kicks in! clever stuff. if these batterys turn out to be

a little big (i dont think they will on the 2 the std one seems pretty

large). you can mount them on their side or upside down if you want! theyre

fully sealed and dont suffer like normal batterys with 'venting' etc...

the difference of the Optima is they only have one set of terminals and the

Yellow top is a little bigger than the Red top

the main drawback is the price, im not sure about the maxxima but the Optima

Red Top is normally around 140 quid and the Yellow top is about 160 quid i

expect the Exide to be similar.

expensive for a battery but they are the dogs danglies and will probably

last longer than the car.

Just called about a Exide Maxxima .. 299.99 :o

chepaest ive seen so far for the Maxxima 900 DC is about 180quid

dont think itll get much cheaper, still a good price though and they are damn good quality and youd have to give it some REAL abuse to kill it
