Recommended Posts

My Freelander has just blown the head gasket after 50k, local dealership plus Landrover UK don't want to know (surprise surprise). I am thinking abouy buying a Surf 3.0 TD from an import company in Edinburgh.

Does anyone out there have any advice on the Surf in general and imported vehicles in particular. Any advice plus good/bad experiences welcome. Thanks

You can find more info here http://www.showmesome.info/hilux/ and also http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk .

If buying from a dealer make sure that you get a mileage check done by BIMTA http://www.bimta.co.uk/OdometerChecks.asp , some of the older 2.4 surfs had a problem with the heads but the 3.0ltr is bullet proof, so just check that all electrics work and also the 4 wheel drive operates.

B) Hi Freelander.. Just come over from the gold side and just thought I'd mention,, I bought a Hilux Surf import about four weeks ago and have nothing but praise for the car.. It depends on what you want from the car of course, personally I'm a DJ who was tired of luggging a trailer around and hey presto;; all of my gear fits in the back no problem.. If you want a vehicle to tow with, it'll pull a house down. On a steady run it'll be quite frugal on fuel as it will around town if you get the diesel, but reasonably heavy motorway use it'll drop down a bit, saying that I had a Grand Vitara TD on the same year and fuel wise there isn't much in it other than the Surf is a better drive. If you're looking for one I'd suggest a later model preferably the series 3 which is the latest shape, the only drawback is they are quite pricey... Hope this helps.. B) Rock an' roll...Ossy
