Dodgy Jap Stereo

Hi all.

Recently purchased a gen 6 2.0 GT SSII black imported celica... and loving it..

I only know the above from the knowledge presented her (.. I thought I bought a standard 140bhp until I checked the engine codes on this site and was pleasently suprised to see it was the 180bhp model).. nice.. So many thanks to all.

Anyway I have a couple of questions if anyone has the answers,.... if not random replies are always welcome.

1, My Jap stereo (which looks like a hifi has been welded in) has massive Fm freq range issues. My local station is 92 FM and it stops scanning at just over 90... so where can I get a FM booster from??? I heard you can get these, but I can't find no threads about it....

2, Upgrades... what are the best things to upgrade, and what will give you instant results (it doesnt have to be speed and power, but things like upgrading a crank shaft,.. what does that achieve?).... I know a bit about cars, but too much tech stuff goes over my head (for now anyways, im a keen learner!)

Lastly

3,. How do you get the arm rest between the two seats off/up/open, the dude that installed my cat 1 alarm put the LED under where my cupholder comes out,... and its gone back in its hole and is now out of sight,... Any suggestion?

Thanks for reading if you got this far.

J

Welcome to the TOC.

Jap FM radio is transmitted on a different frequency band to UK FM. Not sure what you mean about the welded in bit, but the best solution is to fit a UK radio and forget about the Jap one. You might be able to get it converted, but it will probably cost an arm and a leg.

You won't ever need to upgrade the crankshaft. It will take more power than you will ever make with a non turbo 3s-ge. Unless you mean stroking the engine, in which case I believe you can use a 5s-fe bottom end to get 2.2l

A good way to free up a few horses would be a de-cat pipe. But, you may need to refit the cat to get through an emissions test. Run it on super unleaded as Jap petrol is higher octane. If you want significantly more power, the most cost effective upgrade would be to trade up to a GT-4.
