Once I've had the traction control/VSC warning light come on during steady driving and it stayed on until the end of the trip. When I started the car next it had gone out.

The dealer told me that if there is a glitch, like a poor electrical contact between the sensors at the wheel and the computer, then the system is disabled. The driver then knows that it won't be available in an emergency as opposed to finding out that it is broken just when it is needed!

After stopping the engine and restarting, if all is well the electronics will work as though nothing has gone wrong, but the service computer will still register the fault so that it will show up the next time you go to the dealer.

In my case, they cleaned the sensors and contacts and reset the computer and it has been fine since. I think the trouble is that the sensors at the wheels get all the water/mud thrown up from the tyres over them and sometimes this causes an electrical problem. Seems to be very rare, though.

Cheers

Paul.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had exactly the same problem with my CTS after about 1500 miles, It was during the really hot spell last August so that may dispell the mud theory ! Toyota checked it out and got a communication circuit fault on the diagnostics, reset the engine management sytem and its been fine since. Trouble is, neither the dealership or Toyota Technical could come up with a valid reason as to why it happened.

I have only had this problem once, the TRC light came on whilst on a short run, turned of engine and restarted problem went away. having problems with my radio that need the same power down to rectify.

I had the same problem with TRC/VSC light coming on. Stopped and restarted and it went off. At my next service I reported it and the diagnostic check showed up a worn adjuster of some kind. This was replaced under warrenty and is now OK.

I had this happen on my old CTS everytime I drove it for longer than 10 at a steady speed!

This was another eason for selling the car as Toyota didnt know to sort the problem, but beware when these lights are showing all diver aids are turned off meaning no T/C or VSC!
