Hi,

Is there a way to remove and clean (without going to a toyota dealer) the MAF sensor ?

It is located near the air filter... but it seems that the accelerator cable is in front of it. .. Do I need to remove it also ?

Thanks

Hi again !

I have found a pic on the internet.

It shows the thing.

In my engine it is located behind the air filter, next to the accelerator cable.

I have a VVTi 998 cc

then go in Cleaning the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor…… and you will find few pictures

Soz, I wasn't thinking about the 1.0.

Just take the cable from the "half circle" bit on the throttle body with a pair of pliers, then unscrew the sensor. Be careful, the wire is rather fragile. When you put it back in use a tiny bit of vaseline on the rubber o-ring.

Cheers, Yves.

Thanks Yves !

Should I try it or is it too sensible for a beginner ?

What do you advice me ?

Thanks.

Hi again !

I have tried but even if I take this cable away there is still a metalic piece to support the cable which is on the way of the sensor.

Any idea?

Isn't that just the "throttle cable guide bracket" thingie. Follow it, and unbolt and remove it.

I just noticed you're from Belgium too! I live all the way up North, ant zeetje :D .

Cheers, Yves.

Or what you can do is remove the back of the air box (remove the front part along with the filter beforehand) which is held in place by 3 screws lift it up and remove the screw holding MAF holder from the air box. Now you should be able to unplug the sensor.

cheers.

Hi !

I have tried the second solution.. It was so easy like this ;)

Thanks !

I have cleaned the MAF sensor with a contact cleaner and reput it in place.

Now, the next question is how to reset the check engine light ?

Thanks !!

Now, the next question is how to reset the check engine light ?

You can pull out the EFI fuse for a couple of minutes, this will clear the check-engine light without losing things like radio presets, etc. the fuse is located in the engine bay fusebox, its place is marked on the lid.

and yep, DIY rulez. If you know the bl**dy engine well enough (thanks IceHz). ;)

Cheers, Yves.

Hey guys ..

All done !

MAF "cleaned"

Check engine light reseted.

I have driven 2 hours today it has not come back.

How long should I wait to confirm that it was the problem ?

Today, I also had a strange problem that dispeared almost alone.

I was driving normaly and I was going very slow at a moment at a kind of strange noise came out of the engine. It was as if a stone was knowking inside !

I stoped the engine and called a friend. He told me to push on the acceletor, at low regime the sound was there but at high regime it was diseapring.

Now it is back to normal. What could create this ?

I also notices that the motor oil (when opening the motor oil caps) is somehow "hard' at the top. It not a real liquid. Is it normal ?

Thanks !

Hi !

I did a service few weeks ago.. but it was my first time in this garage. I do not really know If I can trust them..

What do you think ?

This sound may come from a leak or old oil ?

Thanks
