Blackcat did you ever get your engine surging on idle problem sorted?

I too have rebuilt the head (1991 GTR Auto jap import) but it now surges rhythmically during idle?

Any help much appreciated.

timing maybe... and maybe possibly ignition... mine did same, and it was sparkplugs and ignition system

Im the forgotton one of this forum (Asha & SexyCrayola doesnt even know I exist)...sob!

Yep, problem was solved.After inspecting and removing many components,it turned out to be on of the fuel injectors had a very minor leak.After removing the fuel rail & fitting new o rings to all injectors the problem was cured.

However before I found this fault I (unnesarily)removed& checked the following items;-

fuel pump

ISC valve

TPS sensor

throttle body

all these parts were ok.

I checked all the timing,belts,ignition all ok.

Its very hard to remove the injectors with the stupid layout plenum/inlet manifold but it can be done.

The engine does not surge now but I also discovered that the headgasket is on its way out & the engine is worn as I have a few other celicas with the same 3sge engine which perform much better.So i may still consider an engine job next summer.

Just dont park in boro for too long otherwise you will find an empty space where your car was or smashed windows.

Aha!

Well done Black Cat you have just reminded me that when I put the injector rail back on I had lost one of the O rings (it fell off somewhere down the back) so I replaced it with the nearest I could find which was a bit slack (not thinking that it would be so critical, but thinking about it now.....Doh!)

Right, down to Toyota in Newport then

If it turns out to be that then I owe you a few pints in lieu of unnecessary work.

I did live in the town centre, 4 long years of it.

So there are actually nice areas of boro, ones with no damn kids with there socks halfway up there legs :) any idea what the all that is about.

mrfil13, can't really argue with you pal because Boro is getting a bit rough in places, but no rougher than in some places down south...courses for horses ,I s'pose.Good news now is that nearly everywhere is camera'd up so a little bit more security than before
