Help Buying A Supra

So I'm in the market for a car, and I found an '87 Toyota Supra Turbo for cheap. It is a little beat up, but only has 113K miles on it. However, the owner says that it makes a knocking noise and he thinks the head needs to be replaced. I really like the idea of 230hp, but I want to know how much it is going to cost to replace the head or how hard it would be to do it myself. Do you think it would be a worthwhile investment? I'm a poor college student :( , so I cant afford to spend a whole lot on fixing it up right now. Thanks!

I'd keep my Eye out for another, if I was you. :)

But if you've got the patience, space and finance, then it would be a good restoration project.

But finding a head of a 1G-GTE might be tricky though.

Well patience and time I have, but money is a different story. It would be a great car to have but I think I'll pass this one up. I will keep my eyes open for another though. Thanks for the advice guys!

How do you know its a 2.0litre 1G-GTE ?

Chances are that knocking is nothing to do with the head but is the big ends. Its not that unusual on the 7M-GTE.

Supra's nowadays are cheap to acquire but not cheap to service or repair (in relevant terms)

but I've been told it was the best engine for the MK3  B)

Really ! Well somebody told you wrong :P

The best engine ever fitted to a MK3 (from the factory) was the 1JZ-GTE
