Hi, I have a 2000 2.0 avensis, and have just been told that the cat is faulty. I have been quoted £450. plus fitting for it. Has anybody else had a problem ?, and if so, how much did they pay?. Any info on any good suppliers would be gratefully received.

It depends on whether it's the 3S-FE pre VVT-i engine, or the later VVT-i one. If it's a pre VVT-i then you might be able to get a decent one from a scrap yard a lot cheaper, but £400 ish isn't too bad for a new one as there not cheap.

just got back from my toyota dealer with a fault on my cat, £650 fitted for a new one, says its half a days job, the cars only just done 62k miles so they got me discount from head office £210 for the cat plus fitting n vat, should of been £420!!

is it normal for a cat to pack up at 60k miles? how long is the life of a cat what causes a cat to fail?

Had the cat pack up on my 4 year old Citroen hatchback - MOT failure cost £400 quid. Ugh. They blamed poor petrol/wrong petrol/ putting diesel in/short journeys (yes) / driving it too hard/driving it too slow. Put new cat on, sold car for £250.00 No more Citroens. Oops, wrong forum

Thanks for the replies, mines done just over 70,000 which isn't a lot really is it?. Mines got the 1AZ-FSE engine in it, but it doesn't mean much to me i'm afraid. The price i got seems to be about right then, but it seems a bit harsh for a 4 year old car!!!. I had a corrolla before this, and had no problems at all, and had it for 6 years. Oh well never mind.
