Ok...What do u mean when u say the engine will run lean?

when i ran my induction kits i got my garage to check out the source of a metalic noise, it turned out the engine was pinking, and was (apparently <_< ) in danger of dropping a valve due to the amount of time that i had been running an induction kit on it. im not quite sure what causes it, but ever since i've used a performance panel filter, the pinking has gone away. :hokus-pokus:

I don't see why you would get pinking from an induction kit, it amazes me. Pinking is usually in the case of the engine's timing has been retarded or advanced to much which causues it to pink, or in some cases the level of octane found in the fuel, those being the main reasons.

Never heard anyone blame it on an induction kit.

I've had no problems with my induction kit. But i haven't heard of that name of that induction kit, you can try it and find out.. can't really help you there.

i wouldnt go with that kit, try and get k&n panel filter or induction kit, upgraded panel filter is meant to stil give you horsepower increase, but no induction roar, dont drill holes into your airbox to try and get more noise, induction kits only work well when they're are routed away from the engine. well in my opinion, and even then to get the full benifits you need to sort out the exhaust anyway,

So in my opinion i would get a K&N Panel filter, Andrew reckon's TRD ones are a bit iffy and he seems to know what he's on about. They'll prolly be about 50 quid and prolly get about same gains, without damaging you engine

i used 2 have a pipercross filter on mine, sonded sweet, but very sore on fuel, putn a trd 1 in aftr i geta pipe made 4 which i can slot my air flow sensor in.

I cannot believe that an induction kit would cause pinking.

The fuel system on toyotas is fuel injected so it measures the air and sprays the fuel into it.

here's what pinking and knocking are.

Knocking is caused by the fuel self igniting, this is what happens if you put ******* fuel into it (eg <RON 95). The temperature at which the fuel ignites reduces and you get self ignition (knock) the higher the RON the more resistant the fuel is to igniting.

Pinking I believe is when you get the air fuel mixture at the top of the cylinder going "sonic" this causes a shock wave and you get a noise. IIRC this can be sorted by retarding the ignition.

As for the induction kits, they can be likened to breathing apparatus. Currently the car breathes through a mcdonalds straw, an induction kit makes it breath through a toilet roll. By installing an induction kit, you REDUCE the pumping losses associated by throttling a petrol engine. I.E you get better fuel consumption and more power.

hope this helps.

have a nice day

there must be something wrong with my engine, because when i first ran an induction kit, a pipercross one, it was ok for a while. then it started this "pinking" noise. as i said i got it checked out by my garage and i was recomended to not use the induction kit, but to use a panel filter instead.

ever since i've used a panel filter and its been fine. and about 3 months ago i bought a different cone filter just to try it because i missed the noise, and it still did it.

any ideas what it could be?

don't worry about it scutchO mine does it too, i don't know why but it makes the fuel mixture lean. if your engine is running lean you can tell by removing a spark plug if it is white then your engine is running lean, this can lead to such problems as a blown head gasket to a possible melted piston. so stick to the filter that does not make your engine pink unless you make the fuel mixture richer

cheers mate. yeah my dad said about checking the plugs to see if they were white and they were.

i thought i was gonna be the only one with this problem!!!

what air filter are you running then?

Rich.

If your using a panel filter go with the TRD filter, works nice.
