Af Button On The Radio (new Avensis)

Hello everyone,

could you help me to understand the function of the AF button (on the radio of the new Avensis)?

The user manual (Italian version, my translation - sorry for the bad style) says:

AF (Alternate Frequency)

This button allows to seek the RDS stations on the whole band.

Everytime "AF" is pressed, the AF mode changes in the following order:

AF selected: "AF" shows on the display. In this mode, the radio passes to the transmitting station who offers a good reception within the same PI (Program Identification) code.

REG selected: "AF REG" shows on the display. In this mode, the radio passes to the transmitting station who offers a good reception within the same local PI (Program Identification) code.

Press again the button to disable the AF function.

Well, I can't find any difference between "AF selected" and "REG selected", except the word 'local'.

Could someone enlighten me?

From my understnding:

AF means the radio will switch to the next strongest reception.

AF REG means the radio will tune to a station with the same RDS charcteristic ie: POP, CLASSIC, NEWS, TRAFFIC. dependent on what you have it set to.

REG selected: "AF REG" shows on the display. In this mode, the radio passes to the transmitting station who offers a good reception within the same local PI (Program Identification) code.

AF: The radio will always change to the radio station's strongest transmitter.

AF REG: REG stands for regional. The radio will change to the radio station's strongest transmitter that is also transmitting "your local branch". This function is used when you are tuning in to a national radio station that has different local stations broadcasting local content at certain times of the day. AF REG keeping your radio staying tuned to your local radio station and not picking up another local station transmitting through the same network.
