Carina E Rear Wheel Cylinders

Hi guys,

Went to change shoes and cylinders on my '95 Carina E the other day, and found clamping the flexible part of the hose line impossible with a self locking wrench. Would a brake hose clamp make it significantly easier? Anyone else had experience with this procedure on this car?

Thanks in advance!

You're better off using a proper hose clamp as self locking mole wrench type things are square edged they can over stress the pipe. I generally put a plasitic bag tightly over the top of the reservoir to stop the air getting in. Its a bit like dipping a drinking straw in a bottle of liquid then putting your finger over the end, when you lift it out the liquid stays in (because of air pressure). It all helps keep the fluid loss down.

Keep the old pipe ends and cylinders from you current job for next time. This way you can use them to fully seal the pipe ends the next time you have to dismantle the brake system.
