Problem Tyres + Noisy Motor

Hi everbody,

I have recently bought a 2004 avensis sedan 1.6. At first everything seemed ok.

Right after 800 km, I have noticed that my left-front tyre had a balloon on it. I asked the dealers I bought the car and they directed me to the tyre manufacturer. An on the report sent back to me, the cause is state as "external impact"

It is very strange and annoying for me since I have realized that ballon by chance. In other words, I had no hit or no critical crossing over the bumps, but the tyres caused a very critical (danger of life ) problem right after 800 km (may be earlier) . The tyres are Bridgestone 205-55 R16 ER90 . Does any body have similar problems with his tyres ? I had previously a ford focus with michelin energy tyres and had no problems even after 4.5 years (70000 km) usage. What is the tyre brand for the avensis sold in your country? Did you have a chance to ask for a special tyre brand?

Second problem is the annoying noise( both low and high frequency) coming from the engine. It seems to me as if I am driving a diesel car. At idle speeds there is a mourning type of noise .Also at speeds higher that 90 km/h the noise also increases and it seems as if the car will not stay on the road.

I think the gear ratios are not properly chosen either since at 5th gear the car goes at 3800 -3900 rpm for 120 km/h which is really a high motor rpm. If you incerase your speed to 150 km/h then 4600-4800 rpm (quite noisy range ). The accelaration of the car is also very low.

So, do you have similar observations , specially about the noise of the car and the engine ?

:(

Any comments?

Regards

Leo

I have Bridgestone Turanza ER30 and they are very bad- stability and noise-very bad tyre- now I have put on the Dunlops Wintersport M3- a big difference-much better stability. My 1.8 goes at 4000 rpm 150 kmh

I have Bridgestone Turanza ER30 205/55/16. I dont have any problems with the satbility(i saw 195 on curve on highway) only problem is accelerating the car. I dont know if its beause of me but the car looses traction especially on hills when accelaratinh from 0(no chance to drag :) )

My 1.6 VVT-i 16V goes 170 at 4000 rpm at 5th gear. If you calculate the maximum speed is 231 as the car goes to limiter on 6600 rpm but obviously it is really hard to see 6600 rpm on 5th gear. I saw 215 on highway maxiumum(look at my avatar).

Are you sure about the rpm. I think it should be at 5200 rp for 170 km/h . At least in my I have this rpm at 5th gear.

What about the noise of the motor at these speeds ?
