Hi My name is Sarah and I am currently using my sons Yaris as a run around until he passes his test.

My problem is the handbrake cable needs tightening and I have no idea how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :D

Handbrakes on yarii are crap, mine needs tightening again!

If its under warranty, take it to mr t, if not, then you have to take the centre plastic thingie off, (where handbrake is) but unclipping at the front and a nut at the back.

Then there will be a nut on the handbrake, i think you just turn this until its tight...

Dont hold me to that though!

at my last service the toyota technition needed my locking wheel

nut to adjust my handbrake, which means he had to take the wheel

off to do it,

aint sure which wheel or what he did !! but it felt alot betta when i

got the car back :D

i've got a Tsport might be different on other models.

i was told tighten the handbrake at the wheels because if you keep tightening it at the handle it will snap the cable sooner than if you do it at the wheels.

i could well be wrong though feel free to correct me if i am :)

if he did it at the wheels then there should be a rubber bung in the hub at the rear , which you need to remove to gain access via a small hole , or there will be a bolt head you need to turn to adjust the rears.its an oldish way but effective.

if you have rear discs then you cant adjust it at the wheels as they are self adjusting callipers as the pads wear away . all you can do to gain extra handbrake is to either put new pads in or nip it up at the handbrake cable.

if i'm wrong forgive me as i wont sleep tonight.
