Thermostat Help

This is probably not the right thread.........but I was hoping for some quick guidance, as my 92 Paseo (5E-FE engine) is my sole means of transport.

I am very inexperienced in auto repair .........but with overheating problems I need to do some work.

After troubleshooting, my problem lies with either a shot water pump or a stuck thermostat.

How do I remove the thermostat----location, method etc. so that I can test if it will open or not(hot water method).

I can't seem to locate it ......top rad line or bottom

If the thermostat is functioning I guess its a circulation problem (the water pump)....so if this is then the case what should I pursue?

thanks for any help

and in the future I will keep my questions in the paseo thread

follow the bottom rad hose and you should come to the housing.

look for bypass hose that geos to the top of the rad...the thermostat will be at the end of that...when the temp builds up the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow
