Weird Noise Part 2

Hello to all members

I am really glad that i found this place of knowledge and experience sharing,so please allow me

to post the poroblem i have, which i noticed on another topic,i do hope it is the same

A month ago i bought a 2003(or 04) SW 1.8 Avensis,[never had a Toyota before]and so far i am pleased,

with the car;s performance---except-that noise, which comes from the front (i think i can hear it from the co-drivers side and it happens ONLY when starting up the car in the morning, wont occur

during gear changes,BUT it will happen again, when engine is switched off and on again.

I would describe the noise as something gets ''stucked off'' somethin that sounds like a''grrratss'

Today i took the car to the dealer;s service dpt, said that they never heard of such a problem

and they got me an appointment Thursday morning,to make a ''detailed'' examination

Also said that Toyota Greece wont provide them with enough info-as they sould-in order to

''de-bug'' problems that may arise.[i hope it is better in the UK or in the other territories]

I do hope and believe that this has to do with the problem that some members have posted on the ''Weird Noise'' topic, which is also described as a diagnostic procedure by the member 'nezerr'

Thank you very much for takin the time reading this

It sounds to me like the ABS pump, they usually make a noise when you first set off, it's probably nothing to worry about.

Is the noise coming from the engine bay or under the passenger seat? If it's from the seat area, it's your Sat Nav powering up. (if you have it installed)

I hear the same noise for one second immediately after turning the engine on. I also think it comes from the co-driver seat's direction, but it sounds like something electrical; a powering of something - not the SAT NAV, as I don't have one.

It doesn't seem harmful. As for the how well the dealers in Bucharest know the new Avensis, I can tell you that all of SE Europe countries are "covered" by Toyota of Greece. Enough said.

Thanx to all for your replies

Well i dont have either a Navi System..Greek territory haven;t been 'mapped' yet,so it must be

from the motor,or probaly an ABS checkin issue.

I am glad to hear that, perhaps the dealer's service dpt i took the car to,they were not so well

informed,i will take the car on Thursday, and if they won't come up with an answer,i will

try to get in contact with Toyota Greece.

<_<

Good luck on Thursday!

It will be an important day for me too, because it will be one week since my dealer admitted not to know what to do about my squeaking wheel and decided to write a report to Toyota to ask for possible hints.

Ok spoke with the Chief eng at my dealers place,he told me that he was informed from Toyota Greece tech dpt that this is a normal noise, caused by the Traction system..sort of a dianostic.

Iwill be watching it though__

Nothing to worry about my friend,

I was also concerned with this noise at first. As i use my car for work (taxi) i spend lots of time in it, i hear all sorts of strange noises. There is a noise from the glove box when u switch on the heater or air con, i get a noise after braking hard as soon as the car comes to a stop, sometimes i hear a dripping noise or a cracking noise? Most common is the noise from the steering!!

The thing is with all new cars they have system checks and electric this n that so theirs always something working away in the background, i.e.: when u shut off the ignition after two mins u hear a click, this is the electric’s switching off. When u put the key in and power up (before starting the motor) u hear a springing sound and a few clicks, this is the air bag check and electric’s powering up.

My advice is if it all feels ok to drive and everything is working ok and u don’t have an orange waning light on then it should all be fine

hope this helps

neil.

  • 4 months later...

Yes, I know this is a bit late, but considering I've just had my Avensis for a few weeks - I thought I'd give you my feedback on this issue too.

I'm just back from my local dealer with what sounds to be exactly the same problem - and he has also stated that it was normal for the Avensis to make this sound - and again, corroborated the reason being to do with the traction control mechanism.
