Hello,

I have an uncle who many years ago bought an AE86. All i know is he put in a MR2 engine, and he loved it! Anyway, he still has the car, but it has been ofF the road for about 8-10 years. He always gets people knocking on his door asking if he wants to sell it.

All i need to know is, how much would it be worth if he sorted it out? At the moment, the arches and tailagte are badly rusted, but he reckons the engine is fine, it has only done 30,000 miles.

If you are from Birmingham, u may have seen it on the road years ago, it is silver and blue.

Its a B-reg, sorry i have no pictures. He will never sell it in the state it is in now, he knows it will be worth a lot more when he repairs it, but he hasn't touched it in years.

Eircam is right.

Me and my brother bought an AE86 in Denholme near Bradford about 6months ago. We paid a bit much for it at £450 (€640), it is a rust bucket also. It was bought for spares. If your car has ONLY the rust you say it might be worth $400 at a stretch. Engines, axles can always be had, cars are ONLY worth money if the Shell is good.

We restore AE86s here in Ireland, we have clients here and in the UK. We know what we are talking about. No one in the UK is knowledgeable enough to restore an AE86 properly. Having it "fixed" before selling may be a bad thing.

As Eircam says smart AE86 owners will see incorrectly repaired arches/wheelhouses/chassis legs/sills/tailgates etc and will factor in the new necessary repair costs when putting a price on the car.

Paint jobs to hide this are also a bad idea as is fillers/fibreglassing over rusted/cracked areas.

Post pictures of the underside of the car, chassis legs, pockets, inner/outer wheelhouses (wheels off and powerwashed), arches etc. We can give you a better estimate on the car based on our some eight years restoration experience.

Ya,, its the Shell thats worth the money.

Dont get me wrong, I paid huge money earlier this year for an import ae86 but I only bought it for the Shell. i blew an engine in my english ae86 last year and I got an mint engine for £100.

AE86ers are only after good strong shells, especially for drifting.

P.S. Please dont let someone ruin the car by attempting to fix the rust.

Give us a shout on 07891 315222 I might be interested but only if the price is realistic,

Cheers eircamae86
