Remote Locking

Since getting my celica I always thought the remote locking was a bit crap and figured the batteries were a bit flat, so I just got a pack of batteries of the internet (Philips ones) but them in and was gutted to find it made no difference.

My Question is have I purchased duff batteries

OR

Are the remotes a bit crap on the celicas?

If I walk up to the boot it won't work, I have to put my arm out down the side of the car to get it to work from behind, from the front it works from about 10 foot away and about the same from the side. Does that sound normal?

if you hold the key fob up to your head it should amplify the signal allowing you to open the car from further away. Another totally useless fact Ive gained from watching topgear

Yeah I saw that on Topgear but it has no effect with mine! It works with my father in laws car though!

I quite often drive straight into a space at work, so when I come back to the car I try pressing the button as I'm walking towards the boot and it won't open till I get well past the boot towards the drivers door
