Thinking About A Tt

I have been after a new car for ages now and have decided to get a nice fast car when my insurance runs out in May '05. Have toyed with the idea of a 300zx but they are only ok in my opinion, the 3000GTO but they are awful on gas so I want a Supra.

The problem I have is that I can spend 9K and I must have a UK car, preferably manual. I know that this will be incredibly hard to find at this money but is it possible? I would even consider having a red one!!

I have never owned an auto but have heard that they are good in the TT, I think that I would miss the gear changes when the pace hots up.

Insurance (why I 'm getting UK) is comming in at approx £600 comp for me (30, 2yrs NCB) which seems very good to me, I doubt if I could get it any cheaper than this and a Civic Type-R is more???

Whats the Supra TT like on gas around town, both auto and manual.

I currently drive a 96 Civic VTi and ride a Suzuki TL1000S :)

Loads of questions I know, Ben

Ben,

A TT Supra isn't a bad choice. I was looking at a Bora TDI until I saw mine and bought it. Manual ones are extremely difficult to find and at that price is likely to have at least 120k on it.

I was sceptical about an auto myself, cos I hated the fact that an auto box won't change gears when you want to, but was surprised. The power from the TT is quite something and I'm happy I'm not having to change gears all the time.

I've had mine a few weeks now and have got 17mpg around town and 23+ on a long journey. It's well worth it though.

As well as being cheaper on insurance, the uk model has one of the highest specs available including full leather, climate(ac), cruise, active front spoiler etc. UK models were only available between 93-96 so you may have to accept the fact that the car will have a few miles on the clock!!

Good luck...

Whats wrong with Red? You do know Red cars go faster :D

Also if its good enough for a Ferrari F40 its good enough for my Supra.

The Auto is a great gearbox, i tried LOADS of Manual 6 speeds before getting a Supra.

Only had to drive 1 Automatic to fall in love with it and that car takes pride of place on my Driveway now.

Give both the auto and the manual a go before committing yourself as you may feel the same as me and tooyoung

I only said that I did not want a red on as every red car I have had or seen has always faded to pink.

I had a drive in a NA auto 300zx and to be honest was not impressed, not that this can be compared to a TT Supra, but the auto box seemed sluggish to me?

Unfortunately someone at work had a TT Supra, but has rather unhelpfully just sold it so I cant have a go in it. I think it was an import auto, and he said he had to run it on Optimax fuel.

Thanks for the answers, Ben.

Hey dude, yeah i too have an import tt, to be honest, i love the autobox, and just bear in mind you have the manu option too, so u can change gears when pace hots up ;) .... not putting down manual supra's but ive heard the clutch begins to feel REAL heavy during your drive..... being stuck in traffic for 2 hours a day, the auto does it for me !! as for a uk car........ you'll be lucky to find an autobox, i looked around 2-3 months for one and just settled for an import in the end, much higher insurance but well worth it........

ps, yes u have to run optimax.

You're a looney. You're better off with a puschair and a bottle of NOS.

(Only kidding, I love TL's)

Just to mention its only imports that really need to run on optimax, uk cars are tuned for standard 95 ron unleaded - the cheap stuff

I've tried mine on optimax but it doesnt make ANY diffrence so i run it on the bog standard supermarket unleaded

I must say I've tried both Optimax and standard in my import and I can't tell the difference. I put the optimax in every so often just because I've heard I should. Will I do any damage to my engine doing this??

Not really, the ECU is programmed to run on approx 100ron fuel as thats what the japanese use out there.

Running it on 95ron will simply cause the ECU adjust to the normal fuel. Its only really the turbo imports that benefit from the higher strength fuel, as running an imported supra tt on 95 ron means a higher risk of detination

Yep, couldnt agree more :D There aint nothing wrong with good old supermarket 95

Although ron wise optimax is a very simple way for running an imported engine more properly (have to be quick though before looses its strength in your tank  ). Although personally i dont think you can beat 95ron with additives to bring up the ron

I have found that Optimax works well in two-stroke motorcycles and in my Civic seems to run well on it.

How can it be hard to get a UK Auto? I thought it was the manual that was hard to get??

How much does it cost to fill the tank, and how many miles can you get out of it?

I'd agree that a manual is much more difficult to find. The Supra has a 70 litre tank so you're looking aroung £60 to fill up.

I have managed to get around 280 motorway and another 40 town miles out of mine, from a full tank of Optimax.

i thought the supra had a 80litre tank?

That might explain why the car happily took 63 litres of fuel and the light hadn't even come on yet!!!
