if jap cars dont need poxy add on why do most of you cake your cars with them?............... for example induction kits and exhausts are a common feature are they not on jap cars?.....

in addition the largest diameter exhaust pipes available are designed for japanese cars.

As for bhp! in all fairness yes corsa's nova's and saxo's may not have a large amount of horsepower, but neither do the sister japanese model such as the starlet, yaris, and sunny, if you are going to compare cars at least do it fairly.. the escort cosworth and rs turbo's have a quicker acceloration speed than standard mr2s.. and if you look at the actual workings of the car, japanese cars are notorious for reving alot higher than for example fords so basically the ford engines have a higher torque and less wear on the engine because it revs at lower speeds.

Yes Jap cars may handle very well, im not arguing that, but if you think about it mr2s, will come standard with all the bits that you dispise people putting on corsa's etc, and i bet you your wife i could make a nova handle better than your mr2 for less than half the price that you bought your car for! :hokus-pokus:

I do like jap cars very much, but feel that if your going to argue a point at least know some facts and use them, :bookworm:

I think you'll find that the Cosworths, one of many, has similar times 0-60 as the MR2 Turbo. Also the MR2 N/A 7.7 secs is faster than than any RS turbos Escorts S1 and S2 are 8.1, 8.2 & the FRST 7.9 or 7.7 as some claimed.

I had a FRST and have just sold that recently and i can tell you it isn't a patch on the MR2 ( had one of these b4 the fez) in any dept.

Nova's are generally crap lets be honest. Who would wanna spend half the price of an MR2 just to get it to handle like a normal car should? even then you're stuck with a poxy Nova.

The reasons cars like corsa's nova's and saxo's are mentioned is because these seem to be the cars that the burberry cap brigade seem to be modifying, whereas ppl with starlet, yaris, and sunny see sense and know that you can't polish a !Removed! and leave std.

Saying that, like for like, the Jap performance models whoops the vauxhalls and Saxo's. You have the Starlet GT, Sunny GTiR and the Yaris T sport to compare.

Maxpower is cack, it makes you cringe when you read there cheesy write ups. And fastcar... whats up with the ***** thing?? they use that on everything, thinking it cool, cleaver and witty. Like little boys saying rudish words - immature :ffs:

Keep your cool as ***** cars -Paxo's etc, ppl are missing out on the MR2's <_<

Personally I don't like the styling of the Mk3 .. and it's underpowered (like all NA MR2's).

But I'd rather been seen in one than a Max Muppet : Nova, Saxo, 205, etc etc.

AND it's better than the cas it was pitted against : MX5, MGF, VX220 (pre turbo)

I think it needs to be made a bit more butch and add forced induction. Tom's Kit and add a turbo (which had been done on a SMT in the UK - sound like fun!!)

I don't believe anyone has a problem with performance improving items that are not visible to the blind eye, exhausts do tend to be bigger but not to the point which reduce the back pressure required by a Normally Aspirated engine...

Erm, yeah, ok.... get your figures sorted before making wild accusations, standard NA = 7.2 book, Turbo is around 5.2 book.....

Mk1 Mr2 can cost anything form £500 up, bet you won't get a similar priced Nova to beat the handling of it for that price :D

Well i have the same problem with an aquaintence of mine, he had a BMW 520i which he used to thrash, fair enough it is german and to be honest they dont really do crap (open to comments im sure) but a 2 litre straight 6 against my Toyota Carina E 1600cc (no mods at the time) kept up with him and, this is a big and for me, i had to slow down for him to take over me!

I would not go for another type of car! Japenese all the way! and this is from experience from having an Vauxhall Astra and a Peugeot 205. Japenese have it right!

lets face it if you cant fit a 4 foot tail pipe, body kit that scrapes the ground meaning that you can never drive the thing anywhere cos otherwise youll shed bodywork all over the highway and put silly neon washer jets (sorry if anyone has them) on it then the laxpower brigade aint interested mate

I'll admit that id love to show my car off im max power but those :censor: heads are only interested in crap like saxos and golfs. Those guys will never see 300rwhp in their lives let alone the kinda power we get to play with.

If i ever get into max power it wont be because of some stupid neons or impractical body kit. It will be because i can kick the :censor: out of any boy racer that dares oppose my road presence!!!

I just got back from a drive and i was following a saxo vtr and this guy had green neons under his car and green washer led's.

When i got to the traffic lights next to him he turned his music up and put his sub on.

When i turned to look at him he started to rev and jesture a race.

So i did what every jap owner would do.......i pointed at him with my arm fully extended outside of the drivers window and laughed VERY loud which really ticked him off to say the least.

Then the fool actually thought he was gonna take me after calling me every f word under the sun (or night as it is). So just to ***** him off even more i went down the dual carrageway neck and neck with him and everytime he sped up i matched him.

In the end i shouted "ubik" then left him in my mirrors.

Sometimes i worry if im going to go to hell for the evil i commit.

I had a similar thing with a saxo who I difted past on a dual carrageway heading north to Reading at about midnight the other month.

I braked late for a roundabout and he almost killed himself to catchup .. I waited till he was next to me and then booted it .. he got about 1/2 his car length infront of mine and then the boost kicked in .. I then took to up to about 6k in top.

It took him 5 miles of me driving at 65 to catchup .. and hima nd his passenger gave me a thumbs up .. :D .. so I booted it again and the missus gave 'em a wave out the T-bar ..

It's not as if my car is subtle and they couldn't have been expecting to be toasted.

Also Bibbs, They were probably expecting a toasting... I harass fast cars just to see them burn away, if they don't want to play though I just sit back (that can be really frustrating though if they've got an awesome car and are doing 50 in a national :ffs: :ffs: )

So the fact I commute to work at 10mph under the limit up the M4 would upset you then?

It did a bloke in a new 330i today .. he was doing the usual overtake everything and then pull off at the junction as late as possible .. so I'd pull in and when he'd try and overtake I'd boot it, get a few car lengths, pull out to overtake traffic in my lane and then slow down again .. after the 4th time he got the hint .. and almost missed his junction when another driver wouldn't let him into the inside lane :D

yeah .. a bloke at work has mates in Japan who are car dealers .. he imports a car every few months .. says the MRS's are appearing, some are seriously modded.
