The VVTI model is the replacement for the gen 6 SR/ST.

The VVTLI model (190bhp) is the replacement for the gen 6 GT.

Peformance is nigh on identical to the gen6 cars but with less emissions etc

140 has close to 140bhp funnily enough, and the 190 near enough 190bhp. I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you more!

Gen 6 1.8 114bhp ST/SR has 0-60 time of 10 seconds.

Gen 6 2.0 168-173bhp GT has 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds.

Gen7 1.8 140bhp VVTi has 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds.

Gen7 1.8 189bhp VVTLi has 0-60 time of 7.2 - 7.4 seconds.

So the gen7's are faster and more economical too. And they handle SO much better  Although of course the gen6 is the better looking :)

Yeah, that's been on here in the 'for sale' section. Just bear in mind that it's a jap import and you could get whacked for insurance. Also, I am skeptical of the 200 hp claim. I know the engine gets lots of work by TRD, but it must be intended for jap petrol (100 octane). At the very least it will need super unleaded, and even then you might need octane booster to get 200 hp.

LSD is a useful addition though. The gen 7 celicas have to be revved to get the best from them. It really lacks the low end torque of the 2l 3s-ge engine, and it only feels fast when you are pushing it. Better MPG though, and sharper handling. Best to have a test drive in the 140 and 190 to see if you like either. They both have exactly the same power curve until the lift kicks in on the 190 (~6000 rpm?), so you really do need to work the 190 to make it feel as fast as a gen 6 GT.

Well the GT4 Gen 6 is faster and better handling than either the GT or the new 190 T-Sport

But seriously, the Gen6 GT is better than the Gen7 190 if you ask me. More Torque, more reliable. Sorry im not a Gen7 fan as you would have probably guessed :thumbsup:

I had a 140bhp gen7 and it had plenty of torque low down in the revs. I now have a mk2 MR2 with the 3S-GE engine and there is hardly any power below 3,000rpm :(

According to power curves I came across in the Internet (not to be taken as gospel), the 3s-ge has about 122 ft.lb torque at 3000 rpm and the 1zz-fe 107 ft.lb. However, the 3s-ge has a totally flat torque curve right down to 2000 rpm, whereas the 1zz-fe drops to 107 lb.ft. This flat torque is probably why the you feel 3s-ge "hardly has any power below 3000 rpm". Also the gen 7 is lighter, and has a 6 speed gearbox, this will make it feel like it pulls harder in the lower gears.

gen 6 ss2 0-60 = 7.9s

gen 7 140 = 8.7s

Admittedly, I have never driven a gen 6 and my original comments were based on comparison of the gen 5 3s-ge engine and gen 7 140.

the power is crap on a gen 6 below 3000 rpm , alot to do with the gearbox ratios also. stick it in second and they fly.

Gen 7 has a host of build quality probs and the 190 t sport is just as fast as a decent nick GT. my old 87 gen 4 can nearly keep up. my 90 GT4 wastes all gen 7's for fun unless they got ££££'s of performance mods.

depends what u want out of it.

personaly i would only touch another GT4/carlos sainz/WRC/RC celica or i would go for a Supra. if you can handle nil room a 3SGTE MR2 is nippy as <I thought I could get past the swearing filter - what a sad muppet I am eh?>.

My Gen5 is completely s*"t below 3000rpm. And then goes like buggery after that, and I get another boost at 5000rpm... It took a while to get used to this.. Because off the lights most cars beat me but hold the accelerater and the revs build up and boom, goodbye to all that try!! Unless its a scooby or supra etc, you get my gist! I love the Celica.
