Toyota Celica Carlos Sainz

Hi there.

I currently own a 1996 Corolla, and I am thinking of buying a Celica 2.0L Carlos Sainz model, 1992 in immaculate condition.

Can anyone advise the rough purchase price I should expect to pay and any problems that I may encounter if I purchase the car, i.e parts, running costs, etc.

Many thanks

Mike Collins

I didn't think the carlos sainz was a GT4. There was one a few miles from us a couple of months a go, which was:

Silver

Very Early Gen 6 Model - Can't remember reg

50,000 miles on clock (but steering wheel looked a bit worn???)

Nasty red grille on the front

Wind Deflectors on top of doors (passenger side snapped off)

A filler patch on the rear quarter

Nasty scuff on front bumper

I quickly walked away from it, but the man wanted £2795 for that from a garage

No, there is not a Gen 6 CS. there is a gen 6 WRC tho.

Carlos Sainz is a higher spec ST185 3SGTE gen 5 GT4. differences are - different bonnet, different front bumper, water cooled intercooler, more BHP, Air con, leccie folding wing mirrors, tend to be found in very good condition tho its still a uk car so some do show signs of rust. expect to pay £5K for an absolute stunner and no more. a fair one can be had for £2.5 - £3K.

A JDM GT4 is the same except it has normal air cooled intercooler, standard GT4 bonnet and bumper.

However, there was a Japenese version of the Carlos Sainz badged as a RC, these can be picked up for less than a carlos sainz, are identical, can be found in wide body, may have a higher spec depending on what extras the original Jap owner got as extra's, should have less miles on it and the body work will be like brand new, and as they all enter the UK from Japan still with a 120mph limiter, it's never seen its red line potential and once delimited - will fly like the wind. dont think they came with the collour options though. think the CS came in red, white, black, ive seen black and met grey RC only though ive seen met blue and burgundy for sale on the net, just never seen them in the flesh.

hope that helps.

Strange

I can't figure that out? I reckon you know what you are talking about, but I definatley went to look at a Silver Carlos Sainz 2.0l Gen 6 Celica. Even checked out insurance prices - was less than a 2.0 GT but about £500 more than an ST. The insurance sites showed it as a Carlos Sainz as well??

:help: I'm confused!

That's wierd.... They were definatley trying to pass it off as a carlos sainz at the garage. What year did gen 6's start. I'm not definate but I thought it was an L reg could have been an M though.

Just wondering if somebody had put the plates etc from a gen5 on a gen6?? As I say it was a heap anyway!

The number of monkeys that put Carlos Sainz on 6th gens and normal GT4's for the autotrader is ridiculous. They were only 5th gen.

As for what Carlos said, theres quite a bit more difference between the CS/RC and the A2A GT-Four. Check out the front page on my site for starters. http://homepages.strath.ac.uk~bdu00248/st185cs/Index.html

The RC and CS dont use the same ECU, and neither is the same as the A2A models ECU either I believe.

When you say what price for a mint 1992, what mileage of mint 1992? they range from 70,000 miles to 13x,000 miles.

you missed a / in your link

I was just confused because the garage said it was a CS and when I put the reg in on some internet sites they all showed it as a 2.0L CS.

Strange - maybe the person selling it had cottoned on to the fact that the insurance companies where wrong and decided to flog it as one of them??

Who knows??
