Hi guys,

its been a while (and a lil quiet in here....) since my last post,

and now it is SUMMER here in Australia!! which in melb can mean a daily variation in temperature from 10C to 40C!!

i been a very happy owner of a gen1 seo... although when i was reading about them... i was under the impression that air conditioning was a standard featreu, but when i got mine i noticed there was no A/C!!!!??

i have lasted 2 years with it without A/C but this summer is gonna get really hot... and i was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on what i can do to fit A/C to my car?

i have checked wreckers for seo fronts with A/C but so far (2 years... ) no luck, i did call the toyota dealers and they qouted me 1,500~2,000AUD - for a car i paid 6,000AUD for.. i dont want to pay 1/3 that for a A/C system.....

are there other options for me? any other car's A/C system similar and can be fitted easily? any 'aftermarket' companies that makes A/C systems? rofl... or am i juss gonna have to sit there with a massive ice block when i go driving :P

looking forwards to your replies,

and thanks for your help!!

i'm prolly gonna take the a/c out of my gen2 'seo but it wouldn't be to into the new year (when your summer has been and gone) and i'm britain and there is quite a lot to it so it would prolly be quite expensive to ship. But if still needed in about 6 months look about on e-bay for it. My A/C system cost be 600 quid from toyota in gemany and then about 300 quid for toyota to fit it in england. Only put it in becuase my 'seo was coming with me to portugal for a year, and it does rock!, 40 degrees outside and your inside windows up, feels like your sitting in a fridge. But i think i used it about twice this summer, and one of those was when i didn't realise i turned it on.

Not sure if it will fit, but it looks like its just a standard toyota A/C compressor with a bracket to attach it to the engine. so you might be able to get A/C compressor, radiator, etc, etc, from scrappy and then just buy the particular brackets and piping to fit your model from toyota to save money. But as you might be, as i am, a little unsure of how the, freon or whatever the coolant stuff in the pipes is, how to get that stuff in and out. This is why i haven't just ripped it out, don't wanna do any damage buy not draining it properly or summin.

Anyway man, not really much help, but still, sure there is summin you can do, i can really appreciate your situation man, and the A/C just makes life so much more comfortable.

thanks for the comments... i would love to buy your ac system but like you said you are in england and i am with the rest of the convicts :P

plus i would need it before summer if possible.. sigh...

gen2 and gen2 seos both run on the same engine so shouldn't be too much of a hassle to use a gen2 ac system in mine... didn't even think of that.. might call some more wreckers tmr check if any gen2 seos has been in...

i would try to make my own ac from scrap parts but i am no engineer or mechanic... i am a chemist so i can make the coolants and stuff... but yeah.. that doesn't help me much without an ac system...

thanks for your comments though~

i will go chase up a few places - fingers crossed...

ps- does anyone know if any other models ... corolla? would have a/c systems that are compatible with the gen1 seo?

thanks again

easy mate,

i was under the impression that most cars out in australia come with a/c?

my starlet was imported from australia, its the lowest model (doesn't even have power steering! ) and it came with a denso a/c system as standard!!!!

Rich.
