Mine At Last !

Finally ! Picked it up today from Grantham, on time as promised.

So far I love it - so quiet and eerily smooth. I know some people find the engine a little coubik but coming from an Audi A2 diesel I would have to point out that you haven't experienced noisy and coubik until you've tried my old car. I personally think it is very quiet and I struggle to tell if the engine is running a lot of the time ( which it often isn't!)

The red colour option is definitely worth a look too - I contemplated black but felt that a black silent car might start collecting pedestrians. Family superstition prevents me from having silver, white won't resell and the blue and green options look like undercoat to me !

With regard to the stereo, mine sounds fine and has excellent reception. Think i'll keep a pack of LCD screen wipes in the car though.( is this OK for the screen?)

Question : Has anyone noticed how much difference using the aircon makes to fuel consumption on average? Obviously too early to tell for me at the moment.

There also appears to be shortage of Prius document wallets as I have an Avensis wallet at the moment.

In all - really chuffed that the wait is over.

Glad you're happy...I went from diesel to Prius and was amazed at the quietness. The prius is harsh if you clog it but the idea is that you don't! :D

The air con in a 'normal' car is driven by the engine. The engine turns a thumping great compressor. In the Prius, the air con and power steering are electrically driven so they work when the engine isn't running. The air con in a Prius hardly affects the mpg - certainly not the 10% they quote on non-hybrids.

Unless the weather is unusual (eg snow!) I just leave the climate control on auto. I hardly ever touch it. Just set the temp and leave it to it.

Enjoy :D

Thanks.

Have just discovered how easy it is to drive off without lights on at night as the dashboard is always illuminated. Only really a problem when the area is well lit, otherwise it would be fairly obvious!

Having great fun creeping round the village on EV mode while looking for a parking space, scaring the locals.

I picked up my Prius on Monday after a (expected) 3 month wait.

Thoroughly happy with it so far. I too "crossed over" from a deisel so the change in noise level is enormous.

My regular journey to work is about 50miles, 30 of them motorway - although we are talking about the M25 so we're not exactly belting along. Currently getting about 60-63 mpg, I might be able to get better if I go really light footed.
