Starlet - 1.0 Standard- Occasional Loss Of Power

Recommended Posts

I know its a slow bugger to start with,so no jokes about "it always suffers from loss of power" LOL

anyway....

Occasionally, when ive stopped,i.e at a junction or roundabouts, when i put my foot on the accelerator it does next to nothing, i.e no revving sound,a sound similar to if you were in too low a gear and accelarating i.e starting in second gear.

its really annoying because i sometimes lunge out of a sideroad to discover the car freezes for a few seconds.

Details

Its the standard 993cc (1984), recently replaced sparks, condensor, points. 3kmiles since last oil change, happens when hot or cold. Total car mileage= 93k

It has a noisy timing chain on startup, but this stops when oil light goes out.And it was "tuned" 4 months ago. Air intake is set to "winter"

any help would be appreciated.

I USED TO RACE STARLETS IN STOCKROD RACING, I FOUND THE CARD TO BE A PROBLEM, ALSO THE FUEL PUMP DID NOT DELIVER ENOUGH FUEL. START BY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL LINE TO THE CARB AND PUT THE PIPE IN A BOTTLE, TURN THE ENGINE OVER ON THE KEY AND SEE HOW WELL THE FUEL COMES OUT. IF OK, THEN TAKE THE TOP OFF THE CSARB AND REMOVE THE GAUZE FILTER IN THE FUEL INTAKE PIPE THIS SOMETIMES GETS BLOCKED. CKECK FLOAT IS NOT PUNCTURED, CHECK FUEL HEIGHT IN BOWL, TRY ANOTHER CARB!
